No Spoilers Official The Callisto Protocol Discussion [PS/PC/Xbox]

It's a solid game if you like this genre, definitely worth it imo. If you're just a AAA game whore skip it, it's gonna be too short/difficult.

The atmosphere is absolutely amazing to me, reminds me of the chills I got back in the ps1 horror days.
See I played the shit out of those early games. $70 seems hard to justify if its short tho

That's fair. If you go in fully blind I think it's still worth it, but obviously we all have different opinions.

I guess I'm just annoyed at the reviews, the game is at worst a solid 7/7.5 out of 10, and I'd say higher for a survival horror fan.

I take back what I said about this game, I can definitely see why people are hating on it. The first half was fantastic, the last act is absolutely atrocious. Fighting the same stupid enemies OVER and OVER again. Oh, and now there's a two-headed monster that you are forced to fight in a small corridor with little dudes running around distracting you. Awful game design, I am a super patient person but I actually rage quit deleted this game on the second encounter of that idiot. I'll reinstall it and finish it up when I cool down but man..... this shit seriously drops my score from like a 7-7.5 to a 6-6.5.

This game needed a month or two in the oven to work out some stuff, there's a good game in there but some baffling choices towards the end really hurt it.

Lol, the adds in the fight go down in one shot even on the hardest difficulty. I do get what you’re saying about the section with the same enemies, that was wearing on me. I’m probably almost done and still enjoying the vast majority of my time.

It wasn't so much the difficulty of the small enemies but the fact they would bump you and then the big dude would smash you in a hit from the side or behind. I think my biggest gripe is how long it takes to switch out a weapon when I run out of ammo. I killed the first two headed guy on the tram on my second try. Died to the second one in the small corridor like fifteen times.

That's exactly the problem though. You said it as a 7 and in this industry a 7 is basically a zero to a lot of these people. To me 5 was always meant to be average so even if a game is a 6 it is still better than a lot of video games out there. I personally like this game but I do think they could have worked out some jank, especially towards the end. I think I'll probably settle for a 7 when it is all done.

Finally wrapped it up tonight. Overall I really dug it. People’s expectations were far too high going into this. A completely new team trying their hand at a AAA level title was going to come with some growing pains. I feel like the bones of a really great game are there but there’s a few things holding it back.

Yes it can get repetitive, there are a few frustrating fights, I ran into a few glitches (game didn’t crash once which is more than I can say for a lot of highly praised games), the movement is weighty but clunky at times, and some weapons don’t do enough to differentiate themselves.

Ultimately though I liked the melee heavy combat, the game has some stunning set pieces and environments, graphics are top tier, performance actors are all great, especially Josh Duhamel, genuinely creepy atmosphere at times, and the gore is a blast to experience. I felt genuine tension getting low on ammo or realizing my GRP was dead at a terribly inopportune time.

It’s a survival horror game through and through. For better and worse.

I’d give it a solid 8/10. Looking forward to jumping back in with the DLC.

Speeds up the healing and weapons swapping animations.

Really glad to see them listening to criticism and fixing what makes the game worse. Gives me a lot of hope for this studio going forward.

Also, lol I finally got all my skins after this recent update. The Gore one is awesome.

Tempted to do another play through.

CP has failed to meet sales target, unfortunately. To date about 2M units have been pushed, falling almost 3M shy of pub’s 5M goal. Stock values for those invested in developer have dropped as a result. Insiders report game’s (very) high budget, performance issues, 7h runtime, and bland to negative reviews hurt success.

Bummer, I think they were in a tough spot. Obviously being a new studio they needed to get this game out and hit their launch date. At the same time it seems like they focused most of their effort on the PS5 version and that left a bad taste in everyone else’s mouth because it had a lot of issues on every other platform. It needed more time in the oven but I’m not sure they could have afforded it.

From everything I’ve read the game plays much better than it did at launch but it looks like it’s too late. I think some good will DLC updates would go a long way for them. No Man’s Sky reminds me a bit of this and with time they were able to really make it up to their audience.

I’ll reiterate that I really enjoyed my time with it and it seems most people who played it in here did as well. I’m not saying they didn’t deserve criticism because they did, but the negativity tends to overwhelm everything else.

That sucks. I haven’t bought or played the game yet, but I hate seeing studios fail, especially when they’re doing interesting work. The game obviously has significant shortcomings but other things they clearly did very well. However, missing their target by 60% combined with a high budget could result in them being one and done. Guess we’ll see.

Wow, I just read the IGN article about this game performing terribly financial. I for one, really enjoyed it. I got frustrated at parts but it is still a well-made game and we need new IP in this genre. It looks like gamers just won't give anything a chance if it doesn't have a legacy behind it. That doesn't bode well for the future of gaming in my opinion. The argument could be made that if it scored higher it would do better but I don't ever see this hitting five million even with those scores.

Fuck.

Well, this is another example of why development companies not wanting to make survival horror games.

Very doubtful it gets a sequel to.

As a survival horror fan, I hate this.

They need to stop building SH games with the budgets of major AAA titles. Scale back the nonsense spending and budget the game for 1.5 to 2 million units and these people can make their money back.

Soooo have the issues with this game been fixed? Is it worth checking out? I saw a video review and the melee seems kinda clunky.
