Despite the mediocre reviews I really hope they can deliver on the updates and it seems like they've laid the groundwork for great sequels.
Two things to keep in mind -
*This is a new studio, which means they took out massive loans to get everything up for a 3-year development cycle. They needed to release a game to make back some big money so their investment showed big profit to attract future investors.
*As for the hype train with all the marketing that made our expectations for this to be the GOAT survival horror game... unfortunately that's how the industry is now. There's practically TOO MUCH competition between all the new games being released around the holidays and everyone already having a huge backlog of games to play. The marketing basically has to scream 'PAY $75 TO PLAY ME NOW OR YOU'RE POOR' to attract enough gamers to buy the game for it to be deemed a success. And survival horror is a niche genre by itself.
This isn't a Cyberpunk2077 situation in which the studio was already a big name and could fund another 2+ years of development to make it right.
So, I'm really hoping we'll see some positive headlines about the sales in the upcoming weeks. Space/SciFi/Horror needs more franchises, and Survival Horror needs more original titles instead of remakes.
