Official DOOM ETERNAL Discussion

My initial thoughts after seeing some of the newer video was the UI looked like shit. After seeing Dr's recent YouTube video he even noticed the same.

Health/Armor UI color scheme stand out to much.

The game is incredibly bright and colorful. It wouldn't make any sense to have crucial items blend in to the background.

But if someone's biggest complaint is "Items too bright" then I'd say they're doing alright.

My understanding is it was done to help speed up gameplay, so you could see them stand out over further distances and quickly figure out how to map out an attack on an area.

Makes sense, even if I don’t agree with it their reasoning is solid. Since doom has always been about fast gameplay, not slow and stealthy one imp at a time combat.

One of my favorite things to do still to this day in a lot of doom maps(old school) is run around releasing every trap there is in a map and try and run around and get huge infights going on. And they are after your ass, have to be speed running constantly

No game has ever done monster “infighting” as well as the original Doom and Doom II.

I’ll always remember level 20 of Doom II where at the beginning you can make the Cyberdemon and Spider Mastermind fight each other.

Or level 8 where the Cyberdemon takes on the room full of Barons of Hell.

I'm psyched for this, been playing since Doom the original. I also noticed there is a bit of occult numerology going on with the release date with both 11 and 22.

Right, I’ve been stuck on levels before where I wasn’t conservative enough in the levels before on ammo etc, and had to creatively make those facks kill each other to regain ammo and get through the level lol.

Especially some later episodes doom 2, if played right with their open layouts and traps can really get some fights going.

HUD is clearly designed for console. For Pc it needs to inform but not detract from the gameplay.
Looked fine to me. I didn't even notice it during game play besides a quick glance to see what the pickups were doing. Was completely focused on the action in front of me.

I’m not following you here, what makes you think console and pc game huds should be different??

Distance from display. Doom 2016 HUD for console was likely hard for console gamers to see on their TV from 6+ feet away.

I’m about 12-15’ from my tv on the couch.

I had zero issues with it.

Maybe if you were playing on a set way too small for your living area or wherever you game. Can't really make that comparison unless you assume people have 27" monitors in their living rooms.

I played on a 55" tv and had no issues at all.

I still need to go back and play the Doom 2016.

What we have here, is an assumption based upon never playing it lol.

Love these type(must be made for console) and it’s a baseless assumption lol

I still need to go back and play the Doom 2016.

It’s your Moral Imperative.

Is this seriously what the UI looks like that has you all up i arms?

Is their some other update to the UI I'm not aware of?

I never really played the multiplayer in Doom 2016, but the idea that Doom Eternal doesn’t have death match seems sacrilegious to me. The original Doom literally created death match, the phrase was coined by John Romero himself.

Doom without death match just feels wrong.

Well it’s still technically death match. Just not traditional.

A lot of reviews docked the game because of the subpar mp.

No deathmatch in this one. Just the mp mode that was shown at the conference.

I hardly touched MP in 2016 so it doesn’t really affect me.

I barely played the mp in 2016 also, but if I had to guess all I would have played was deathmatch.

Just doesn’t seem right to have doom without it.
