You wouldn't be switching to socialism. We are not socialists here either, we are a hybrid economy with free market capitalism. We have both universal health care, tuition free college, strong unions and a very healthy middle class, yet, we actually rank higher on forbes list on countries to do business in than yours AND we rank higher on the economic freedom index than you. So you see, having strong social safety nets and social programs, which you already have some of, does not exclude capitalism. In fact, the reason why we are so good to do business with is exactly because we invest in education and health, and our work force is extremely adaptable and flexible as a result. So, not a good argument.

You are already paying twice what every other western countries pays for your healthcare with simular or worse outcomes overall, and that is with millions of people uninsured and thousands dying each year because they cant afford heath insurance. I guess that the freedom to live is less important. The reason why you are spending so much is because private insurers jack up the prices on medication and you guys pay several times over what it's worth in other countries. Even a Koch founded study found that your citizens would save 2 trillion dollars over the next 10 years going over to a single payer system. So, again, not a good argument.
Lastly, the goverment doesn't control what procedures doctors can do here, nor in any other country with a single payer system (which is every other country than yours). That is complete horseshit. We have excellent doctors and health care professionals. I myself am a physiotherapist and I take pride in working in the health care section. Yes, we have waiting lines on ELECTIVE procedures, which you guys do to. We don't have any for medical emergencies. Also, we don't have a high percentage of the population not seeking care because they can't afford it. It even works as a preventative because people are not afraid of being billed by visiting their doctor, which means that they go more often. We also don't have people getting bankrupted because of getting sick. That doesn't happen.
Oh and BTW, we have private hospitals as well and people who can afford them have the option to do so. So again, you haven't made a single good argument.
