Elections NYC mayoral race

As i was reading looks like Columbia University was able to elect a candidate that fits their beliefs.
The election of Zohran reminds me that with the left merit doesn't matter much. Instead skin color, race, sex orientation etc is most important. They don't view politics as being overly important. Zohran has no experience in running any organization.

I don't imagine Zohran's victory will help improve New York's troubled economy. It does make me wonder if New York will become another north east city that goes into decline. As some have written many north east cities have gone into decline over the past few decades, with the exception of New York. With Zohan's choice to run the city it does make me wonder if New York'ers have chosen to go into decline.

The dude is crazy , FL property value about to raise

Snake Plissken smiles and starts getting prepared.

Happiest man might be Deblassio - as there now might be a worse mayor of NYC. Than him
I was about to say that.

-cant be worse than Deblassio.
-NYC: hold my beer

Lol city owned grocery stores will basically be like a Dave and Busters for thieves and dregs. Those social workers hired to police them will have their hands full
Seems a little bit short sighted, instead of solving one problem, they will open the door for another?

Would love to hear about how this is just nit picking and everything will just work itself out.

This is absolutely insane lol. But Cuomo is so hated in NY it is not surprising. But this due is a nutter. A socialist NY would be bankrupt in no time. No police in high crime areas (which I am in weekly for work) would cause an increase in crime and dead social workers. AOC backed this moron and no one ever questions her district. It is Beirut. She has done NOTHING for the Bronx. The issue is Mayor Adams had a few scandals so let's see what happens. If this moron gets elected, NYC will fall HARD.

Isn't Adams running as an independent? Does he have enough support to split the vote?

I live relatively close to NYC but pay zero attention to it's politics.

When elected the stink of his failure will waft over the bridges and through the tunnels to NJ. I like the escape from New York idea. People here are going to be excited about walls.

Or just wait till he starts getting paid, not his government salary, and does the same backtracking they all do.

Doubt he can win…. Not that I know NyYC politics at all.

I guess there is ranked choice voting in the general? Only hope would be Adams and Sliwa, or whatever his name is, split enough of the vote and the people that vote for them have the other as second choice.

I think the happiest person here is Elise Stefanik, who will likely be running vs Hochul. Hochul is hated and her leadership (lack of) brought this.

It is funny tho, Cuomo likely thought he would easily win this race and then use it as a starting point for a 2028 presidential run

We're not that far removed from 9/11. Imagine telling a New Yorker in 2001 that a Muslim is in a position to be mayor in 2025. Kind of crazy.

I'm loving the meltdown over this, from reactionaries and neoliberals alike. Cry more fuckers.

Anyways, the obvious takeaway from this is that neoliberalism is dead, and if democrats want any modicum of electoral viability in the future they need to embrace an economic populist agenda, but I'm not counting on them to get it.
