Elections NYC mayoral race

I'm loving the meltdown over this, from reactionaries and neoliberals alike. Cry more fuckers.

Anyways, the obvious takeaway from this is that neoliberalism is dead, and if democrats want any modicum of electoral viability in the future they need to embrace an economic populist agenda, but I'm not counting on them to get it.
Crying? Are you crazy?
This guy will be the face of the republican propaganda next election. I'm rooting for him.

I’m interested to see how the government responds when the government ran stores are regularly looted while their social workers try to stop the looters.

I thought this interesting - in the article is a map showing Cuomo won the black and hispanic districts. Zohran won the white populated areas.

NY politics isn't really the left and right thing that is going on in the rest of the country. Blues always dominate the area but they range from moderate to real progressive. What matters more is the old voting blocks and different alliances they make. They form these coalitions when they cross endorse each other. Mayor Adams was/is a Democrat but he would be more of a moderate. He wouldn't run as a Republican because it would mean losing.

The black and Hispanic districts usually vote for the old school candidates. Name recognition and alliances matters a lot. Candidates with big campaign money behind them usually win. The white populated areas are usually younger transplants that tend to be more progressive. Staten island is more conservative.

I for one would like to see a trial of government run, non profit or slight profit grocery stores. The grocery stores in Canada not sure in US) are a racket and need to be pee pee wacked.

Not sure about that other bullshit tho
Most grocery stores are slight profit grocery stores already, they generally only make 1-3% net profit margins.

I really hope he wins and implements his ideals. I think we need another example of why progressive policies continue to fail, time and time again, in various different regions across the world. It'll be great for the rest of the country as the economic hub of NYC is distributed across the country as businesses flee NYC. May even provide some cost of living relief for NYC.

He is a sex pest. He was the governor and had to step down due to accusations.
Stepping down over accusations is stupid. Literally any person can make an accusation against someone else for any reason. Stepping down shows that the accusations might have had credence, but also democrats have generally cornered themselves by saying all women need to be believed. As if women haven't been proven to lie or make up stuff all the god damn time.

It's not just one woman. I think it was close to a dozen women. That is how Holchul got to be governor in the first place.

How tf was he even in this race? How low is the bar set in NYC?

As i was reading looks like Columbia University was able to elect a candidate that fits their beliefs.
The election of Zohran reminds me that with the left merit doesn't matter much. Instead skin color, race, sex orientation etc is most important. They don't view politics as being overly important. Zohran has no experience in running any organization.
he's an elected official, he doesn't need to have experience. he has to represent his people. regardless, you realize the right has now elected a teen beauty pageant owner to be president twice, right?
I don't imagine Zohran's victory will help improve New York's troubled economy. It does make me wonder if New York will become another north east city that goes into decline. As some have written many north east cities have gone into decline over the past few decades, with the exception of New York. With Zohan's choice to run the city it does make me wonder if New York'ers have chosen to go into decline.
as someone who's lived in the northeast my entire life, both you and i have no idea what the hell it is you're talking about.

I am assuming he stepped down as governor to let the heat die. He got all the charges dropped or paid off some people. It's a scandal but technically he was never convicted of anything. It is a he said they said type of deal.

Cuomo has other issues too. He had some beef with Trump and he is now under investigation for the handling of COVID patients during the pandemic. I am not too familiar with the specifics but I think he moved a few thousand COVID+ patients into nursing homes and downplayed the # of deaths that resulted.

Even more questions. I have to wonder how tf he made it this far.
