Social Nova Scotia Canada bans hiking

Yeah but the owner. So my family can’t use my land and I can’t use theirs? Ridiculous. My mom is my neighbour but I own the land all around hers so she can’t walk into the trees? This is ridiculous and you know it.

Let’s ban cars because people get in accidents.

Rural fire departments worried about low water levels in ponds, lakes

A fire captain in West Hants is concerned about the water levels in the lake that her department uses to combat fires.

Jennifer Daniels of the Hantsport Fire Department says the continuing dry conditions are putting pressure on firefighters from two sides — the dryness makes it easier for fires to start and the water needed to put them out is evaporating.

She said many of the usual rural water sources, like ditches, ponds and lakes, have dried up or are harder to access.

Daniels says that the Hantsport department draws water from Davidson Lake, a municipal watershed that is at critically low levels. There is no rain in the forecast for the foreseeable future.

The concern isn't isolated to West Hants.

Devin d'Entremont, the fire chief of the West Pubnico Fire Department in Yarmouth County, says the ponds that his department relies on are also being affected by the lack of rain.

"We have designated ponds throughout the community that are fenced off, and they're specifically for us to get water from, and they're getting low," he said.

According to the Canadian Drought Monitor, Nova Scotia has abnormally dry areas, with the central region experiencing a moderate drought as of June 30.

That means the province has had below-average rainfall, with much of Nova Scotia receiving less than 85 per cent of its normal precipitation.

Some municipalities have issued water conservation notices and the province has issued a burn ban until October.

Municipalities begin to take action with no end in sight to dry spell

Water conservation notices in place for 5 areas

Drought-like conditions across Nova Scotia have raised water concerns in some communities with no significant rain expected in the province for the foreseeable future.

In Annapolis County, those living near Margaretsville are under a mandatory water conservation order.

Jim Young, the director of municipal operations for Annapolis County, says the order covers around 90 to 100 homes

"We have not had substantial rain to recharge any of our local streams and rivers and lakes in … well over a month," he said Monday.

Young said those who get their water from the Margaretsville's water utility should only be using water for personal use and avoid using water for non-essential activities, including watering the lawn and washing cars.

He said Annapolis County's other water supplies are holding up but continue to be monitored.

Advisories issued across N.S.

Elsewhere in the province, Antigonish has implemented voluntary water conservation measures, and is asking residents to be careful with their usage and reduce non-essential activities.

The Municipality of Colchester, meanwhile, has issued a water advisory notice for those who get their water from Tatamagouche's water utility, asking them to limit water usage for landscaping and to be mindful of wasting water.

Water conservation notices have also been issued in Stewiacke, Stellarton, West Hants, Municipality of the District of Yarmouth and Queens.

In Stewiacke, town officials have previously said that water levels in St. Andrews River, the town's main water source, are at the lowest since monitoring began 10 years ago.

And then there's this from your OP link that shows there's over 200 active fires in Canada right now

So there's such a shortage of water that towns are putting restrictions on, firefighters are worried about the lack of water, and firefighting resources across the country are already stretched thin, but your dumb ass wants to go play around in the forest.
If Nova Scotia catches on fire, you're on your own. No one is coming to help you. Other provinces have their own fires to worry about.

If you live near the forest, you should know how easy it is to start a forest fire, and how easily it can get out of control. All it takes is one idiot....
Don't be that idiot.

You know where Nova Scotia is, yeah? Like nowhere near the fires in the map you posted?

Admit it’s an overreaction. It’s a stupid bureaucratic decision that doesn’t make sense for his situation.

I’m aware dude, I live here. Peoples wells are going dry. That’s not what I’m arguing. The woods floors are as dry as I’ve ever seen them.

What I’m saying is banning hiking on private property is some authoritarian, covid level bullshit that should never be allowed to happen. We already have really strictly enforced burn bans. There’s a certain level of redundancy that isn’t practical or sane and this is past that.

This is “just two weeks to flatten the curve” all over again. It doesn’t work and it’s stupid. We have DFO and others patrolling the woods now with vehicles but I can’t go hiking lol. Insane.

Btw on that map, Nova Scotia is the long skinny province far east. Far away from forest fires which happen every single year and have since the beginning of time. We already had strict bans in place and they are reasonable and fine. This is a whole other level of insanity.

Maybe they could take some of the billions they’re spending on refugee apartments and foreign lgbt programs and invest them in firefighting. It would make a ton more sense to me considering we’re a mostly vacant woodlot as an entire country.

Admit it’s an overreaction. It’s a stupid bureaucratic decision that doesn’t make sense for his situation.

The point of posting the map is to show that resources nationwide are already stretched thin.
When forest fires get out of control, they call in for help on the federal level, from other provinces, etc. Those resources are already being stretched thin because of the fires that are active. Alberta, Saskatchewan, etc aren't going to send you help, they have problems of their own.

I noticed you didn't address the part about how dry it is in Nova Scotia. Rivers at 10 year lows, firefighters worrying about fires getting out of control because of the current lack of water, or water restrictions being put in place.

This is a powder keg waiting to happen.

So then enforce a burn ban. Don’t make it illegal to hike and fish lmao. Such a stupid overreaction.

As a volunteer firefighter, I need your fingers and toes to count how many fires I've put out that were started during burn bans by people who "knew better".

People are stupid. Look at how many wildfires have been started by dumbasses doing gender reveal parties.

So here in Nova Scotia, due to the hot and dry summer we’re having the government banned all outdoor activities in the woods due to the fear of forest fires. This extends to crown (public) and private land.

So as of right now, I can’t even go out on my rural property without facing risk of $25,000 fine. Why dont we ban driving to prevent auto accidents too while we’re at it?

Insane. We already had a strict burn ban. Say what you want but I don’t think the government should ever have the authority to tell me I’m not allowed to go for a walk on my own private land. I’m blatantly disobeying it anyways but curious to see what will become of this. I’d love to get fined over it too because I think you could beat it in court.

I really don’t like how the government gets more expensive, powerful and annoying as time goes on. I’m sure the greater good people will shoot me down but no hiking on my own land? Eat shit.

Leave the Saturday morning cartoon which is North America. There's better programming out there.

Hiking and backpacking is living man. You don’t know what you’re missing.

But if you’re serious about bird watching, you need the Merlin Bird ID app.
I’m up in the Pacific Northwest of the United States- easily the most beautiful and outdoorsy part of our great nation. Despite that I just can’t get into hiking, camping, etc.

Bird watching is legit. You hear them and then get all quiet and slow and try to find the little fuckers with your binoculars. It’s fun as hell

I mean, do you really want to be sleeping in your cabin when a wild fire all of a sudden barrels your way? If you die stupidly, we're all gonna get even dumber restrictions.

It doesn't seem like a big ask, given the circumstances.

Begging for more government control shut downs and restrictions on personal freedoms, huh book boy?

<lmao> <lmao> <lmao> <lmao>

They love it. Waiting on their knees mouths open and tongues out...

Weird thing for a guy who supports a rapist and a party that defends p-edophiles to say

The Democrats twice voted to release the Epstein files and the republicans blocked it both times then shut the house down to avoid the subject lmao

You have no business talking about Canadians you bitch

I dislike you as well because of your love of the color blue. Just because the sky is blue and the ocean is blue doesn't mean it has to be your favorite color! There are so many other colors and hues to choose from!

I have a home on the river and a lot of the land I’m talking about is also around a smaller river. I’m not going anywhere, I love my life here. I just wish Canadians would get serious about wanting to improve things. It feels like it’s getting bad here and it’s not going to stop anytime soon.

I don’t care. There’s only a certain level of risk makes sense to try to stop. I figured many would have learned this lesson with Covid. Stupid people have existed since the beginning of time.

Strictly enforcing burn bans would have been enough. This is some serious 1984 authoritarian shit and needs to be stopped now before this type of massive government overreach gets even worse.

Also, why is nobody talking about poor forest management and chronic underfunding of firefighting? We spend billions overseas on ridiculous things but refuse to invest in critical infrastructure and nobody seems to say shit.

You should try hunting them. I hunt duck, goose, grouse and even have hunted turkey in the past. It’s fun and I’ll eat any of them except goose. It’s really fun and this better not affect bird season.

(I always eat what I hunt)

Don't start any fire dumbass, and you'll be fine.
