Social Nova Scotia Canada bans hiking

Last time we had a burn ban in place. Didn't stop it. It started in someone's backyard in tantallon.

Last time a roofer was posting videos on Instagram of himself smoking joints and tossing butts off the roof(with no fall protection lol). 10 minutes later he was posting a video of a fire in the backyard he was working in. He since deleted the videos of him working and folks clamoring that the yard ignored the burn ban, but crown couldn't press charges.

Everyone is still using the trails and ignoring this. At most they will get a fine and if a fire starts, they will be unable to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that a biker or hiker started it
It's still worth a try compared to doing nothing. Look at what's going on in Newfoundland. Even after the wildfires started they ended up having to go put out fires that were deliberately set.

Shitty people gonna shitty but that doesn't mean you should give up trying to get people to take precautions seriously.

We had a burn ban last time a wildfire started but it just took 1 idiot doing illegal burning to cause 170 million in damage

In the end I agree, someone is going to toss a cigarette or joint at the wrong spot and kick something off regardless of this hiking ban.

It still results in a lack of freedom, which is in your national anthem three times, which I find ironic and hilarious

Up to $150k fine now for going into the woods. 3 Provinces now with bans, I wonder how many weeks it's going to take to flatten this curve.

So here in Nova Scotia, due to the hot and dry summer we’re having the government banned all outdoor activities in the woods due to the fear of forest fires. This extends to crown (public) and private land.

So as of right now, I can’t even go out on my rural property without facing risk of $25,000 fine. Why dont we ban driving to prevent auto accidents too while we’re at it?

Insane. We already had a strict burn ban. Say what you want but I don’t think the government should ever have the authority to tell me I’m not allowed to go for a walk on my own private land. I’m blatantly disobeying it anyways but curious to see what will become of this. I’d love to get fined over it too because I think you could beat it in court.

I really don’t like how the government gets more expensive, powerful and annoying as time goes on. I’m sure the greater good people will shoot me down but no hiking on my own land? Eat shit.

Thanks for announcing that you are a dumb cunt. Congrats.

- Guys that start fires should be charged like in Japan.

Will this stop the homeless from starting fires?
That's how they usually start here in San Diego. Urban campers don't care if they torch what they don't have.

I dont know why they haven't learned that outright banning activities is not going to make the situation any better. Put the onus on the community to put a stop when they see these activities. Sub out some bylaw jobs to have increased prescene in these areas. Anythings better

Pray for rain up here. Lots of it. It’s been a bone dry summer.

Don’t be starting another freedom convoy over this! 🤦🏻‍♂️

Don't know how well that lands, coming from the "Land of the Free" that has the largest prison population in the world...

Just sayin'.

Well, we have the freedom-some just choose to give that up in exchange for a life of crime

Re: the bold, what a load of reactionary horseshit. You won't be fined for hiking on your own land. Did you even read your own source?

Landowners are being encouraged to voluntarily follow the same restrictions on their private land to minimize the risk of wildfires. While landowners will not face a fine for activities such as hiking in their own woods, any guest of theirs who is found violating the ban could be fined.

How in the actual fuck can you object to this: "We just need to get through this stretch together and not have any fires."
2 weeks to flatten the risk of wild fires

The funny part about all of this is that none of these rules will apply to anyone of indigenous decent. I am mot blaming them, but we have crazy double standards in Canada. They have no bag limits, no seasons, no requirement for hunting PPE. We are a lost society.

It's for your own good, would if you break your leg walking your dog in the woods

The similarities are striking... So now its for your own safety?

Even the Covid style Snitch Line

6 Months Prison?

They didn't even charge the volunteer firefighter who committed arson with 6 months.

Logan Sieben sentenced to 18 months of probation, 200 hours of community service

Sieben will serve 18 months of probation, complete 200 hours of community service in 15 months and cannot possess any fire-starting tools.

Mokoruk declined to impose a restitution order, despite Crown attorneys arguing during sentencing submissions that Sieben should pay $76,650, or the amount associated with the department's response to the fires.

Macklin & District Fire Department Chief Justin Bast said he was hoping for a more severe sentence.

"I don't know that jail time would would solve the problem," said Bast over the phone on Monday. "Maybe a little bit of some type of house arrest or something like that and the restitution with that as well."

About time imo, hiking is mostly a product of white privilege
