Television Star Trek: Starfleet Academy is terrible

In Star Trek IV when the crew go back in time to the 20th century, Bones is horrified by the medical technology, regarding chemotherapy as being on par with the Spanish Inquisition. He meets an old lady who tells him she waiting to undergo dialysis. Bones replies disgustedly, "What is this, the Dark Ages?" and gives her two pills.

Later we see the now very happy old woman surrounded by doctors who are trying to work out how her kidneys have regrown.
Hmm, does that count as a violation of the prime directive, or is it a grey area because it's Earth?

Come on; Kirk violated the Prime Directive almost as many times as he did hot Alien women! ;)

I've watched every star trek show outside of the original & animated (Next Generation, Voyager, DS9, Enterprise, etc.)

Could not finish any of the most recent stuff. Just vibes different.

Used to be my jam, but I have no interest in this either.

Instead of watching, I'm going to try and watch all the classic movies.. missed out on a lot of those.

Really can't understand they didn't make a show that continued after Voyager or Nemesis
Maybe the actors did not want to do it. From a brand management pov they both very divisive that is an another reason, but it does not matter because what they make will probably be bad.

Can't watch the new Trek. ST 2009 was okay for what it was though my opinion has diminished significantly even on that. Darkness sucked. The one after sucked. None of the new shows look remotely interesting to me but what is interesting to me is that it looks like they're getting worse. Picard S3 was extremely flawed but solid. Nostalgia bait worked on me.

These people don't understand nor care about Star Trek.

Why did they make a hologram fat they could have made it look like nia long lol. They could have also programmed it to be the most knowledgeable officer it doesn't need an academy.

And douches wouldn't be a thing either, so I doubt anyone would be calling each other that in a 1000+ years.

Some say this is better than Discovery. Having never watched it, I can't imagine how that could be the case. This show has seriously pissed me off this morning I need to calm down lol.

That is already a very low bar, but by "some", we're talking about a few dozen fat pink-hairs on Reddit?

We can go all the way back to January 1st of 2025, and among TV series with a minimum of just 1K votes, on IMDb, this is the 6th worst rated new TV series in the world (any language). It's rated worse than 9-1-1 Nashville.

Seen some screenshots of people saying it. TBH, I don’t know anyone irl who actually watches any Star Trek stuff at all. It’s all online. So yeah, probably a few pink-haired people on Twitter or whatever.

Again, I never watched it, so I don’t truly know how outrageous of a statement that is or not. Only that academy cannot possibly be better. Breaks the laws of physics.

You mean no one watched newTrek. Oldtrek was on Netflix for a reason.

Is that a shock? Star Trek has been shit since JarJar Abrams and Bad Reboot got their hands on it. It hit rock bottom with his Star Trek Wars turds, and then Alex Klutzman bought a high-powered drill to dig beneath the hard crust of rock bottom with the shit he added to it. I've said it before, no one likes NuTrek, the few who pretend to do so because they agree with its shit politics.
If you want to bring up politics, you know the way to the WR.

Every Trek had black people in it. Every single one. It is legit terrible imho. It feels wrong at every step. Though you should of course watch for yourself and see. See if you think it captures the spirit of the franchise for yourself.
None of the new Star Treks have ever really captured the feel of TNG and DS9, which are the best.
But that doesn’t make them bad. I liked much of what I saw in Discovery despite the over reliance on the multiverse stuff. And Strange New Worlds has been pretty good from what little I’ve seen.

But they’ll never be able to make another DS9. You can’t remake perfection.

That's cool that you found enjoyment in Discovery and SNW. I try not to tell someone they have to dislike anything, as it is always better to find yourself in joy instead of disgust. I will try to watch both of them at some point to see for myself, but I'm tapping out with Academy.

Can't disagree with this at all.

It's fascinating to me to see people ITT, all of you fans of the franchise apparently, complaining about a Star Trek series being too woke, having diverse for diversity's sake, or being overtly political. TOS was all of those. Do you remember the bridge crew? The first interracial kiss on television? The Neutral Zone separating the Federation from the Romulan Empire?

I'm not saying all criticism is invalid--I haven't watched much of any of the newer series, TBH, so I can't really judge. And I have no doubt that when you are churning out so many, there are bound to be duds--perhaps more duds than successes even. But to complain they have gay people or a fat hologram or whatever is just plain silly to me.

Think what you want, of course. That's just my 2 cents FWIW.

I think the concept alone is kind of dumb, and I love Trek, but it’s more that the show ONLY relies on those things you spoke about above. That’s the main focus. Or was for the three episodes I watched. It’s the difference between a hammer and a surgical knife, and it’s plain to see the hammer coming down on you at every turn.

I have not watched every Trek available, but of the ones I have in the last 40 years, they had a balance. You would get progressive ideas thrown your way, because that’s what Trek has always been about, but then you would have competent men and women too, doing what needed to be done with some shrewdness. There was optimism tempered by pragmatic captains and crew. Tell you how to think or to question things, instead of being told what to think.

Like previously said though. Watch for yourself and see. If you enjoy it, cool. You better get your fill while you can. The ratings seem to be in the shitter and I doubt it will return.

Well, like I said, and paraphrasing the film title, there will be dud.
