Not sold on Tatiana Suarez at all

I think she had cancer at one point.
If so, that sucks. Cancer is a bitch and I hope she beat it. But she still isn't deserving of a shot. Just like Rountree wasn't deserving of a shot. He made it a fight though. She needs to do the same no matter what.

Its crazy Thug Rose holds two wins over Zhang, and for some reason moved up after losing to Carla who didn't even hold the belt for long.

People don't even realize how badly they expose their inner selves in these discussions, which cracks me up sometimes, and other times is just kind of sad.

Funny how much time certain posters spend talking about the WMMA that they purport to not care about a bit.

When there are subjects that I don't care about on the list of threads, guess what? I avoid them, it's easy. Apparently, it isn't so easy for those with an axe to grind (which would mean that in spite of their claims, they care deeply about WMMA; otherwise, they would ignore the discussion).

I'm sold on her when she's healthy. But injuries have plagued her career, which is really tragic. I hope she shows what she's capable of.

She had tonnes of potential, because of her size and wrestling ability. Bti as far as having a well rounded MMA game, she is literally light years behind the likes of Zhang and Yan Xiaonan.

Re-watched her last last few fights, she's good, but overall pretty limited.

Her striking & striking into takedowns is not great, she doesn't have very good upper body takedowns which is critical in today's landscape if you want to be a succesful grappler, & her cardio/ technical efficiency isn't great; she uses a ton of energy trying to get takedowns with a fairly limited skillet, she primarily only has single legs, high crotches, & front headlocks.

If by some miracle she does beat Zhang I don't see her holding the title very long. I would favour several girls between 115 & 135 to give her the business, even with how shallow some of those divisions are.
Stylistically, I don't think Suarez really has to be an elite fighter to defeat Zhang. I feel the wrestling discrepency will be enough for her. Zhang's wrestling has improved but it still isn't good enough to hold off Saurez imo...

...honestly I'm probably wrong about this but I'm a big Suarez fan so take what I say with a grain of salt lol

It just depends on what version of Tatiana we get. I think I would have a lot more confidence if she had a tune up fight. Weili is a little explosive ball of muscle, I don't know how easy it's gonna be to grab her, with ring rust. I remember when she fought Andrade, it took her a while to get her bearings.
I really have concerns on if Suarez makes it to this fight healthy. I feel like she goes wayyyy to hard in training camp. She was already all fucked up in her camp when she fought Nina . She slammed her head and shoulder into the wall taking someone down. That fight should have never happened to be honest and it cost her years away from the sport. She might be able to beat alot of the girls while injured but I don't know if she can do it against Zhang.

Suarez is good. She has good enough takedowns and she has decent back control. She isn't the most athletic or fastest fighter in her weight class. She doesn't stop when she makes contact and keeps grinding until she gets the takedown.

Zhang is about to age out. Suarez isn't much younger but she has way less mileage in terms of fights. I will admit Suarez is very injury prone. Their upcoming fight isn't an easy one for Zhang. Zhang has decent wrestling too but it's mainly takedowns. Zhang's TDD isn't all that especially if someone can set it up with strikes. Suarez has big holes in her game but she might be able to pull it off.

She did have cancer yeah and she did beat it. I forget what it was. She's not technically deserving of one but it would be a fucking crime if someone as talented as Tatiana never ever got a shot and let her whole prime go to waste, so they cut her a break.

Yeah, Zhang is old, unfortunately. It's a shame I wanted to see more of her but she hasn't been very active.

Yan Xiaonan isn't all that, but okay. She flash ko'd a reckless Andrade and now everyone thinks she has finishing power, but she really doesn't. That's not to say she's not good, but Carla Esparza absolutely kicked that girl's ass. She's not a good wrestler at all.

She's 35. She could have a few more years near her physical prime. I would like to see her fight more than once every few years though.

If she wins in February I hope she fights again in the fall.

She walked through Grasso and Esparza back to back, both of whom proceeded to go on world title runs.

She's arguably past her prime, but she's still capable of beating Zhang.
Yeah, everyone keeps talking about her wins that are over 5 years old and irrelevant today

Suarez’s only win at strawweight in 5 years came against Andrade, AFTER Yan KO’d her a few months before

34 years old, thats a bit past her prime, when she fightd still looks good tho.
