Damn. Yes. I'm doing the meet in long beach at MetroFlex Gym...mailed my app today.

Thats awesome man - we'll have to meet up for sure. And yes, I'm going in with no coach, no training partner...sherdog taught me all I know...

Nice, that's the same meet! What does a coach do? Is that important?

Yep, I'll do my best to get video for sure. Just have to get someone to take it...

No worries, i'll take your vids. That or i'll have my wife take it for us, she said she'll go with me.

Speaking videos I was told this girl stars in a couple low budget indie films that might warrant checking out

Thanks for those links. There was a lot of helpful stuff there. And you entering a PL comp is a good idea. You've made great progress over the past year and gotten damn strong. Time to test yourself on the platform!

This is pretty cool...Sherdog: bringing lifters together.

Good luck to the both of you!

Sounds good. I have no idea if my wife will be coming, probably depends on kids soccer that day. I'll PM you my contact info, looking forward to meeting you.

Nice! Best of luck with the meet prep!

Thanks, toonie!

I don't about "damn strong" but I'm looking forward to the meet. I think I'll enjoy it.

Decided to try to pay more attention to my diet. No real reason other than I think it should be an important part of my training, and I've been neglecting it. So here's the diet plan:

- Try to eat veggies & protein with every meal
- Limit complex carbs (rice, pasta, bread, etc) except for after a training session
- Drink more water

I don't know where I need to be in terms of daily caloric intake or anything, so I'm just going to try to follow those 3 rules, eat when I'm hungry & track my macro-nutrients online & see where it ends up. Once I have some ideas I can increase or decrease calories to try to gain or lose weight.

The hardest part will be the carbs. My wife's family is Italian, but she grew up in Cancun, MX. My mother-in-law also lives with us, so when 1 of them cooks dinner, its usually spaghetti, lasagna, tacos, enchiladas, etc....all made from scratch & all super delicious.

And you want to limit that???! Crazy.

LB Squat

5x135
5x165
5x205

** Forgot to get on a conference call for work, ran to car, took call for 30 minutes then continued workout.

LB Squat (Continued)
5x135
5x165
5x205
3x250
3x295
3x330
3x375
1x385

Bench Press (Paused)
5x155
5x185
5x225

DB Rows
20x90

Having to take a 30 minute break in the middle of my squats sucked. Still got through the workout. Squats felt just ok today, nothing special. I was trying to make sure I got deep enough & make sure I'm thinking about commands since I have a meet coming up, and maybe I was thinking about too much stuff. The 3x375 set felt heavy. The 1x385 single was pretty good, but I leaned forward a little too much. I think depth was ok.

As it turns out one of the older guys I practice Highland Games with is an ex-bodybuilder & ex-competitive powerlifter. He's coached powerlifting "teams" as well & is currently an S&C coach for a local high school football team. He has his football players doing 5/3/1 & loves it. So I'm going to go see him in the next couple of weeks & talk to him. He'll be able to critique my lifts & offer some pointers. Pretty excited about that.

So here's what I'm thinking about for openers for the meet...

Squat - Current PR 405
Opener: 167.5 kg (368.5 lb)
2nd: 180 kg (396 lb)
3rd: 190 kg (418 lb)
* Squats have felt great lately & I'm confident that I can beat my current PR

Bench - Current PR 315
Opener: 117.5 kg (258.5 lb)
2nd: 125 kg (275 lb)
3rd: 130 kg (286 lb)
* Current PR was TnG, not sure where I'm at with a paused bench.

Deadlift - Current PR 475
Opener: 190 kg (418 lb)
2nd: 205 kg (451 lb)
3rd: 220 kg (484 lb)

Any thoughts?

Any thoughts?

1. Practice your paused bench before really deciding on your bench numbers.
2. Those look reasonable to me, but I know little about the subject.
3. We have S&C member who know A LOT about the subject (*cough* Keosawa *cough*) who would be delighted to give you an opinion that is better informed than mine. :)

Thanks man - I just posted the same thing in Keo's log as well for the feedback...

And you want to limit that???! Crazy.

So...I did ok on the "diet" yesterday until dinner :icon_neut

Here's what I ate:

Breakfast:
3 eggs scrambled with onions & spinach
1 banana

Snack:
Protein Shake with 16oz whole milk

Lunch (post workout)
1 Cup of fried rice with chicken & steak
Protein shake with 16oz whole milk

Snack:
2 small steaks (28g protein)
Cucumbers & tomatoes
Different protein shake...

Dinner
Wife makes homemade pizza with fresh spinach, artichokes, tomatoes, olives, mushrooms, cheese, sausage & pepperoni. I ate 4 big slices, half of the pizza.

Snack
Another protein shake...

Finished the day with about 200g protein (lower than I wanted) 220g carbs (higher than I wanted) and about 2500 calories. My bodyweight is close to 220, its really hard to try to get enough protein in....

Nice lifting and nice eating! Cool about the Highland Games guy too, he could be a useful resource.

Well, if you don't want that pizza, spaghetti, lasagna etc. I'd be more than happy to eat it!

THROWING
Open Stone
(~13#)
6x Standing Throws - best of 40'
10x Full Throws - Best of 44'

Short throwing practice today, just open stone. My 5th standing throw was 40', which was a PR with this stone, so I tried one more & hit 40' again, just to prove it wasn't a fluke. Full throws were mostly in the 42-43' range. Two were <40', and 1 was 44', which is also a big PR with this stone.

So I'm feeling pretty good about the stones today. Still (obviously) lots of room for improvement. And I really need to get off my ass and go to home depot & get some PVC so I can fix my Scottish Hammer & start throwing that thing again. My hammer technique need major work.

I'm planning on attending one more Scottish Highland Games this year, It will be Oct 13-14 in Ventura, CA.
