The fact that Evloev still has to fight a "#1 contender fight" at this point in his UFC career is just insane, and I don't even like him. UFC matchmakers need to all be fired and/or put in front of a firing squad.

The ufc is making a statement that they will control exactly who they are going to allow to hold a belt. These decisions are all business and zero sport, there's no matchmaking about it. they do not give one shit how successful a fighter is, if its not the guy they want, that guy will be buried UNLESS they are left with no other option. been that way for a while but its getting more definitive now. they are desperate for stars and name power and they will build and retain them any way they can.

Movsar or Murphy over Lopes again makes all the sense in the world, Dana and the UFC don't do sense though, they do whatever they feel like.

Feel sorry for both of these guys, either is fully deserving of a title shot but the UFC's obsession with Lopes and his mullet means he's getting the Yair treatment of just being shoehorned into the title picture.

Ali abdelaziz runs the ufc. All his guys -- islam, usman, gaethje, umar -- are getting the match ups they wanted, even though nobody else really wanted them.

Evloev even has a win over Lopes. For the best of me, I cannot understand why people like Diego Lopes so much.

Diego has an exciting entertaining style, fights frequently, and tries to finish. Evloev is the complete opposite and looked unimpressive against a very short notice Lopes. It's that simple.

Edit: but I agree that Evloev deserves a shot against Volk. Volk wanted to fight him a while ago and the UFC declined. If Evloev wins then his 1st defense could be against Lopes and it would be more interesting than Volk/Lopes 2 right now.
