Renato Moicano siding with 'casuals', questioning Pico vs Murphy

how is someone who just main evented a fight night not ppv comain worthy?

Big signing from another or vs undefeated fighter on 10 fight winstreak in the UFC.

how is that not a ppv co-main worthy fight?
Exactly. This is a pretty good fight. I'd rather watch this fight than some overrated but popular rank squatter like Brian Ortega.

Who gives a fuck it’s time to see if Pico can sink or swim. This will immediately tell everyone if he can hang with the top dogs in the division or not.

Fuck that, I'm more excited for Pico's UFC debut than any other Bellator fighter that's come before him.

Oh he can hang.. but he is a of glass cannon

Haven't been so excited by a signing since Jiri made his debut.

I remember telling sherdoggers that we were in for something fun.

Name wise they are not someone who come quick to mind nor it is a straight up title fight.

Ppvs are not cheap in us. I dont personally have anything against the fight itself just noting that for 80 bucks the optimal would be title fight or a fight that makes some nice headlines for press and gets lots of clicks.

"People are too casual to know who Aaron Pico is, but they definitely give a shit about Evloev and for sure know who he is."

I had equal excitement when I saw they signed Patchy Mix, but he fell fuckin flat.
Still hoping for Lazy King to eventually get signed and graplefuck the WW division.

It really isn't a co-main event type fight but it's between that fight or mvp v cannonier. Who cares man just enjoy the fights. Not all cards are gonna be loaded. Some of the best fight cards are ones that don't look exciting on paper.

Unless a PPV does exceptionally well, the UFC gets paid the same by ESPN regardless of total sales. The UFC also has no interest at this point in fostering a positive relationship with ESPN. Giving exposure to two fighters with the potential to become stars under a new broadcast deal is literally infinitely more valuable to the UFC than making a fight that might goose PPV sales by 10,000.

Renato Moicano says on his podcast that the UFC 319 co-headliner does not gauge fan interest:

"I don't think it's a wothy co-main event for such a big card. Because UFC is not about being good, it's about people wanting to tune in to watch. It's like Tony Ferguson: eight-fight
losing streak, and he was still in the UFC. This is not a sport, this is entertainment to cash in. If you're very good, but nobody knows you, people don't – or I don't want to watch."

"Because let's be honest: I don't know Aaron Pico. Call me a casual. Maybe I'm a casual. I watched him once in Bellator, then you got only the highlights on Instagram and stuff.
So I don't know his game. I don't know much about him. If it's Evloev, people know Evloev. There's controversy about Evloev because of his style and whether this guy should fight
for the title next. But at least everybody knows about Evloev. Not many people know about Lerone Murphy, to be honest – not in the U.S. If you ask a casual fan, you say, 'Hey, do you
know Lerone Murphy?' They don't know!"

Thoughts on a fighter having this mindset?
I like miocano ... but this is one of the dumbest things I've ever read. I'd bet $1000 anyone who can spell Evloev (outside of Russia) also knows who Murphy is 100% and there's a good chance they also know Pico.

The difference in popularity between those 3 guys probably can't fill a hs gym in America.

He is not exactly wrong but theres one big problem in the logic:
Its the best they can do considering the timeline and resources to make a fight. Sure they could try to do a bigger fight but their calculations indicate that Kham-DDP is big enough so a bigger name fight might go to waste and a "rankings" + "hardcore fans know Pico" is enough to justify the co main position.
This. Khamzat-DDP carries the card in terms of mainstream attention. The rest is nice to have which means it is money to conserve drawing power for the next cards.

Moicano wasn’t complaining about poor quality short notice fights when he was boosted into a title fight at the last minute (one of the shittest title fights in history).

At least this Pico fight is likely to be competitive.

Im tuning in to see if maybe the question gets answered ......... who reaches their enormous potential first Aaron Pico or Erik Silva
That's a bit harsh on Silva, he's still really green!
