Dude with an MG 42 and guys running him ammo held up Omaha beach. He ran out of regular ammo and was firing trader rounds. Destroyers shot at him and drove him from his post.
I’ll see if I can find something on the Portuguese guy that held up the German spring offensive by himself

It took tons in terms of design cues but there's actually some pretty tangible differences between them in terms of action: MG-42 was recoil-operated and roller locked, it has no gas piston or gas tube. It was dubbed "Hitler's Buzzsaw" and had about twice the rate of fire of the M60, which is gas operated with a gas piston and rotating bolt.
