Marvel Just Killed Thanos (Comic Book)

It was sooooo good. Then eventually they changed all the writing teams and it got really, really bad. A lot of people don't seem to know the MCU is pretty much based on the Ultimates versions, and look how well that went.

haha. I tell so many people about the movies being basically Ultimate X-men and The Ultimates, transcribed onto themes from the regular Marvel Universe.

I hate how they change writing teams, but I guess I understand it. Unfortunately, it is why every single comic series ever has so many highs and lows.

When Astonishing X-men first came out, with the HOPE cure, I thought it was awesome. After like 15 issues, I was like meh... That is also around when House of M ended, and I kind of fell off. It just gets to be so much to follow. Thats why the condensed ultimate universe was so good!

I also loved the Ultimate Universe but the best era from that line was the beginning.

You had great writers like Miller, Bendis, Warren Ellis helming the imprint.

It also gave us Miles Morales who is a huge fan favorite and one of the best new-er-ish characters created.

He’s super popular and has a cartoon movie coming out this winter. Great character

Ultimates vols 1 - 2 are some of the best comics ever written. As other have already mentioned, they were a massive influence on the MCU:cool:

Yeah not having to keep up with generations of continuity for every story arc was nice. The way Ultimates handled the political themes of the time, but still made an entertaining comic that wasn't preachy, was just amazing. But Ultimates volume 3. Sigh. Like 5 pages into it you just go

It's fun to go back and read that scene where they're sitting around talking about who would play them in the movies. Like hey, they actually got half of those guy. Crazy.

Okay so it was after Generations. Generations was the series that brought the old and new characters together.

Like Spidey and Miles, x23 and wolverine. Captain Marvel and ms marvel
Maybe before I started reading Marvel again with any regularity. Had been basically reading nothing but Image and Vertigo for the last few years, but Vertigo dried up and recently has only published two books. They being rebranded or something, should start next month. They're bringing back Sandman!!

This sums it up right here. That is why the MCU needed to take many of the themes from the Ultimate Universe, to be successful. There are many better ways to tackle social issues that to change the sex of the Norse God of Thunder. M I rite?

Comic books and death never last.

Dude was locked away in a sealed off galaxy at the end of the Thanos Imperative.

God, Marvel is lame.

meh he'll be back

remember when peter parker has his mind taken over by doc ock's mind after dock ock died....look how long that lasted

and FWIW dock ock in peter's body as spider man >>>>>> peter in peter's own body as spider man

I hate how Thanos is drawn with eyeballs now. Just because movie Thanos had eyeballs doesn't mean they need to draw the comics to match.

The old eyeless Thanos looked more badass.

Happened before the movies. Thanos has usually been drawn with a red pupil in black eyes, this artist just didn't do it well like Ron Lim did.

that seems to be the setup now. Some chick Requiem is wrecking shit in the new Infinity Wars and no one know who she is. Gamora seems to be the front runner.

Thanos can’t die tho because lady Death or whatever bant him from ever being able to die I thought, or some shit.

I did read it, and I liked it. Turning Darkhawk into a major player was a surprise. They seem to be on a 90's throw away character kick right now, but what they're doing with these previously "who gives a shit" characters is pretty awesome. Looking forward to seeing what they can do with Sleepwalker.

I don't think that it was revealed how Wolverine gained the stone in any of the books I read. If it was, it must have been a brief explanation, bc I don't remember. There were several Wolverine minis going on lately, I didn't read any of them, but perhaps one of those explains it. I do know that he gave his stone to Black Widow, and she is the current owner.

Yes, the current Infinity Watch is a motley crew. It makes sense to have people from different backgrounds holding the stones, they won't be quick to trust each other, necessarily. Stilt Man is an obvious character who won't let anyone have his stone, who trusts no one else. That isn't to say that someone else can't overdose him, but in order to keep the stones separated they need to be held by those who don't trust each other. Black Widow is good bc the others know she can't be trusted. I like the dynamic.

Always liked the concept behind ‘Sleepwalker’ but the actual execution.. not so much.

Warren Ellis started it all with the authority. Miller fit right in after that.

They were the British Invasion guys. My favorite ever is grant Morrison.

Funny. I prefer Ellis when he's parodying mainstream comics but not so much when he's doing work for hire. I also enjoy Morrison more when he's doing work for hire than when he's doing his mo esoteric stuff.

Marvel's ultimate friendzone.

Is a comic book death ever really final?

Nope, the Incredible Hulk was killed off like 2 years ago and has came back a few times since then. He is now back as The Immortal Hulk and the storyline is that he can't truly die.

"What was the last $2 Billion movie you starred in?"
- Thanos;)

Good one!

Darkseid still has the edge over Thanos IMHO. :)

"I am many things Kal-El... But here, I am God."

Now that's some powerful stuff.

Thunderbird is still dead.
He was one of, if not the, first high profile deaths, and they' kept him dead. His spirit/ corpse has been seen, but he's never truly been resurrected.

The Ultimate Universe gave us Ultimate Spider-Man, the most consistently great long comic book runs of all time, and The Ultimates (1-2) + some great Ultimates related cross-overs. The rest was pretty much garbage.
