Leon Edwards should be higher on the P4P list than Alex Pereira

Many say Volk beat islam and he's p4p no.1. I actually scored it for yan too. but i'd be a liar if I said Sean didn't suprise me in that fight and make it such an incredibly close fight.

I won't take this win from him, as much as it pains me because I am a huge fan of Petr Yan.
I would personally score exceptionally close fights like that a draw. Even giving the victory to O'Malley, which is fair, it can still be taken into consideration it was a close fight. Same thing really applies with Aljo (a lot of marginal/controversial victories) and I don't think he was on that same tier as Izzy or Usman, imo. I'm a fan of Sean (fight style mostly, nice interviews too), but he has a lot of work to do still.

Aljo's an interesting one because I kind of get the feeling he knew he was outmatched in a lot of his fights, but managed to find a way. An interesting champ and saga for sure. I'm glad he brought some attention to how exploitable the grounded opponent rules are. (Would be better if we didn't have them, but still)

It’s nothing by but fan bias. Casuals hate technical intelligent fighting and think being exciting is the same as being more skilled
You make it sound like Alex is getting outclassed before he lands the KO. Alex is as technical of a striker as they come and he's still able to find ways to end the fight. Liking decision based fighters doesn't make you a hardcore fan, it just makes you a contrarian because you want to feel different.

I think it is fine. Alex is climbing because he is disgustingly active. He is probably going to fight again by the end of the year. It's lb 4 lb anyways. Either you are number 1 or you are doo doo for that list. If Jones wins his next fight then he will be back on top.

Rankings have a huge recency bias, Pereira has won belts in two divisions and defended in the same time Edwards only fought like 2-3 times, facing 2 different opponents in 3 years, getting 2 titles is probably higher up.

Also dont forget promotional rankings are marketing tools.

How exciting or entertaining someone is shouldn’t factor into P4P. Leon has the better resume
Does he? Pereira has beaten nothing but Former champions at LHW, 2 of them never really lost the belt, one of them he beat him twice, Edwards recent wins are Nate Diaz, Usman and Covington, before that he did beat a former champion, RDA who is a great win, but he is a LW former champion, 3 years before their fight, Pereira isnt beating past their prime guys.

Before that he beat the MW champion, and future MW champion, i mean...

O'Malley KO'd aljo.

aljo who had beaten every BW champion of the last 5 years. Aljo also had 3 top 5 wins going into the fight with Yan where he won the title.

I do not like O'Malley but imo, his wins against aljo and Yan should have him up by the top. Koing aljo is massive like koing Izzy or Usman.
Imagine if Sean also KOs Merab..... who's gonna beat this guy now?

He has longer streak
He has more title defenses
He is the more skilled, more well rounded athlete
He is in a harder division
He has better wins
Hasn't lost a fight in almost ten years while Alex lost last year
Never been finished; Alex has been finished twice

In what what world does it make sense that Leon Edwards isn't P4P #2???????
P4P. Alex has held a belt in 2 weightclasses. Also didn't get nearly KO'd by the ghost of Nate Diaz, it took one of the best MWs to ever do it, to catch him in MMA.

i actually sort of agree. but i don’t care. poatan’s career has been 100x more fun to follow. and even though leon is more well-rounded and technical, i’m not so sure he would win that fight if he were the same size. poatan has made a career of beating fighters who are technically better.

Well poatan has won two belts for starters.

Jamahal Hill was supposed to be the next big thing until Alex decided to move up and KO him stiff inside the 1st round. This all happened within 3 fights in a heavier division.

Regardless of how much you discount the talent in his divisions, what he has accomplished is much more impressive and seemingly more difficult than just coasting decisions.

You could also add: Alex only made Izzy cry. Even Strickland made Izzy quit!!

Alex obviously is overrated
