Yeah let's setup this fight that way it takes about a year and half to see him face proper competition

Good job on creating a log jam for his path to the title

Give him Burns \ Luque
And then Usman

By fighting in one or two weightclasses below where he should be and by being bigger than everyone else.
Why would anyone be excited about that BS?

Maybe I'm old skool, from the era when guys didn't cut weight.

This bitch would be getting dumped on his head, or he would be getting knocked out because he can't get the takedown at 205 or 185 against good opposition.

Lol, its not hate.
Trouble is with you noobs is you follow whatever trend comes along without thinking. I guess that's modern society.
Cutting weight is a new thing in MMA. Only the last maybe 10 years it started getting to ridiculous levels.

It's not healthy, it trying to 'game' the system and real fighters never liked it or did it.

This whole thing with the slam shows the reasons why.
I look forward to the day Chimaev gets KTFO when he cant get the takedown against someone his size.

Time will tell, as I mentioned earlier in the thread, training reports from All Stars are consistent that he's picking up and dumping Gus and Latifi on a regular basis. You can feel free to tag me when he flops.

The guy who got subbed by Lee and Luque? Two much smaller men than Chimaev?

The one guy is Gilbert Burns. Let's see it.

Ok Burns I won’t disagree with. That’d be good as well with that jiu jitsu grappling vs neck beard grappling.

I just don’t want to see Khamzat vs another striker with questionable takedown defense. Let’s see a high level fight on the mat as those are so hard to come by and I think Khamzat vs Chiesa, or Burns now that you say it, would deliver.

Chiesa might be able to hold his own in wrestling, but he gets KO’d standing for sure. Doesn’t have the head movement or striking pressure to survive Khamzat walking him down.

I agree. Jon Jones is tough to beat regarding his "creativity," and he was also pretty darn dominant.

However, Jones was nowhere near this lethal. To be able to hold a ranked fighter up like a baby, have a conversation, and casually submit him has not been seen before.

One punch knockout power, also to ranked fighters, repeatedly also has never been seen before.

Jones had nowhere near this kind of power or domination.

Maybe Jones didn't hold a conversation mid-fight, but he absolutely could have. He was methodical in how he picked apart his competition, like he was playing with children. And not only was it was top-level competition, but Jones also had less actual experience at that point. Jones first fought in April 2008 and won the title March 2011 - fewer than three years after his professional debut. Khamzat's been fighting for three and a half years and is probably another two years from a title shot, if he even gets to that point.

I just want to see Khamzat fight in December sometime. Against anybody in the top 10.

Neil Magny called him out for Dec 18th. That’s a no brainer, they were rumoured to fight last year, time to make it happen.

I'm on the hype train, but more like one foot on it. I think he's a great prospect and will go on to beat some very good guys, but at the moment It's hard to gage if he'll be a top 3 guy or even a champion. Phillips is an ok win, but Phillips is primarily a striker with heavy hands. He was never going to stand a chance vs Chimaev in the grappling department. Rhys Mckee was fighting at LW 2 fights before Chimaev, and again, was never going to compete with Chimaev's grappling. Meerschaert was a decent win, but Gerald was on the back foot from the get go, then just froze and Chimaev landed a big shot and it was over. Jingliang is a good win, but not amazing. If Chimaev is able to beat the likes of Leon, Masvidal, Thompson or Burns without going through much resistance, then i'm fully on the hype train and believe he'll win the belt within the next year to 18 months.

You know a fight I would have loved to have seen, would have been Chimaev vs Yoel at 185. That would have been intriguing as fuck. No way Chimaev would have been able to manhandle Yoel, and Yoel's wrestling and explosive power would have given Chimaev fits imo. Shame their paths could never cross.

I'd rather him face Stephen Thompson
then Chiesa

My picks now are *
1. Burns
2. Thompson
3. Luque

* Subject to change anytime I want

Izzy 2.0 is the much easier opponent. No rassling, just good tdd. Probably gets KOd and submitted at the same time.
But if Khamzat manages to dethrone Marty (real possibility) then challenge Izzy (if still champ), then he'll be revered as god here on sherdog.
I favor strongly Khamzat over the two current champs. yes, I know you gonna say he ain't tested, and he ain't, but it takes some foresight to predict these things.
You will hate him for some time and then you'll love him.

based on what? Who has he faced that is harder to get down than Israel? The question is basically if he can get him down, standing up he quite probably doesnt have a chance
