Is Khamzat Chimeav legit or still hype?

He's treating people like he's an adult walking into a kids BJJ class, I don't know why people are so against people getting excited about the potential of someone they see doing that.

By fighting in one or two weightclasses below where he should be and by being bigger than everyone else.
Why would anyone be excited about that BS?

Maybe I'm old skool, from the era when guys didn't cut weight.

This bitch would be getting dumped on his head, or he would be getting knocked out because he can't get the takedown at 205 or 185 against good opposition.

Hazmat is a muscular, lean build. Look at him. Don't let your hate blind you.

There are plenty of taller guys fighting in way smaller weight classes. Khamzat looks more suited to WW than Sandhagen to BW or Conor did to FW

Lol, its not hate.
Trouble is with you noobs is you follow whatever trend comes along without thinking. I guess that's modern society.
Cutting weight is a new thing in MMA. Only the last maybe 10 years it started getting to ridiculous levels.

It's not healthy, it trying to 'game' the system and real fighters never liked it or did it.

This whole thing with the slam shows the reasons why.
I look forward to the day Chimaev gets KTFO when he cant get the takedown against someone his size.

Nah. I'm not sure if he becomes champ but I do think he's a legit top 5 guy and definitely up there. I don't think he'll fold like a Darren Till or something like that.

I'd love to see that. He could maul Mike on the feet in under a minute most likely. No need to take him down.

Is the fight to make, to launch the siberian wolf in the top5. The real question is, do we want Khamzat in the top5 in 2021? Is the wolf thrown to the wolves too soon that way? Still green he is.

Btw, I have no doubt that Chiesa will be easy prey for the wolf, goes down in the first.

Chiesa would be an interesting test because he's probably the only one along with Usman who matches Khamzat's physical strength. Won't offer much in the striking department though.

I have yet to see anyone call Khamzat a once in humankind athlete

Probably this. I don't know her "strikes absorbed" stat, but in her first 12 fights, only one went beyond the first round, and only two went beyond 1:06 total fight time. And say what you will about her competition, but Ronda was a champion defending against top five fighters, rather than some prospect putting away guys just cracking the top 15.

I’d be okay with that fight and in many ways it makes sense, but I think the promotion wants Khamzat fighting for the belt ASAP. Khamzat vs Burns is the fight to make IMO, or failing that, he’d fight Leon Edwards or Vicente Luque. A win against either of those three would equal a title shot.

You're talking about a guy who hasn't beaten a single quality opponent beating one of the most dominant present day champs, keep on chasing that unicorn.
He just smashed a top10 fighter in Li in 1 minute. I say give him Cheesa next.

Usman is the tougher style match and should be Khamzat's first target. MW will come later.

And by later I mean literally the next week
THats why I think he should have picked the easier road to a title- Izzy,

Paulo Costa will fight him at 185 (260)
Khamzat doesnt mind, he fights all the weights too.

I'm all aboard the hype train. I think he's the real deal...

Khamzat needs to fight Michael Chiesa next. Would be a beautiful grappling fight. And we'll get to see if A) Khamzat can out wrestle another very good wrestler or B) if he can change up the game plan against a wrestler and use his striking if needed.

I don't disagree, but is Chiesa really a "very good wrestler"?

If it forces Khamzat to use his striking that’d be another boost to Kham if he can do it that way.

The KO on Gerald was cool, but a 17 second one punch knockout doesn’t do enough for me to know if the skill is actually there or not. This is a way to force it to show up in the octagon if the wrestling neutralizes or if Khamzat just decides to strike as the better path.

Chiesa is too easy.
Khamzat should look for someone ranked higher

I was watching all of Khamzat's old fights, and he has scary one punch power. The man is gonna put some dudes to sleep at 170lbs.

What I don't really know, is how good is his chin, or cardio.

The guy who got subbed by Lee and Luque? Two much smaller men than Chimaev?

The one guy is Gilbert Burns. Let's see it.

I would say so. What welterweight wrestler is better other than Usman?

He’s a pretty poor striker, and got into the top five on his wrestling alone. Was almost in the line for a title shot but he stupidly got greedy for a sub against luque instead of grinding on him longer and dealing more damage while waiting for a better opportunity

he was beating Luque with his wrestling until he caught the stupid. Beat Magny and RDA with his wrestling. Beat Dariush and Jim Miller with his wrestling.

Idea of Khamzat vs Chiesa came to me when someone else mentioned Khamzat vs Magny and I’m like… why? We already know how that style matchup goes.
