Social Kevin McCarthy ousted; Mike Johnson becomes US House speaker

Even if they had all of Congress and the presidency, the republicans won't have enough votes to ratify the 10th Amendment which clearly puts abortion into the States' hands ! It would take a red wave of unprecedented proportions to get there. Right now, the GOP is too busy in their MAGA vs neocon civil war. They ain't got time to ban a damn thing.

I wont disagree that the GOP is too incompetent to pull it off.

Wild card: Johnson could be indicted by the DOJ. Lol Let's not forget that Jack Smith has a list of Republican Representatives he's threatened since the beginning

Did he agree to any stupid rules like allowing a single nutjob to initiate a vote for his ouster?

The Supreme Court has clearly stated that abortion is a State Right. It is unconstitutional for the federal government to ban or legalize abortion.

Johnson has a long history of opposing abortion rights. He has endorsed a bill that would ban abortion nationally after 15 weeks, with exceptions for rape, incest, and the life of the mother. Johnson's home state of Louisiana has a total abortion ban, with limited exceptions. Johnson has also endorsed anti-abortion legislation that would effectively ban abortions nationwide after six to seven weeks.

H
e also does not want to follow the Constitution.
Johnson is a deeply evangelical Christian. In a podcast recorded last month, he indicated he does not believe in the separation of church and state.

The left is going to pick up seats because of abortion again. The same reason why the Red Wave was just a dribble. He will be made the face of the GOP much like Pelosi was used to fund raise for the right.
Young voters are going to outnumber Boomers, and one thing young voters hate is Regressive policies of the GOP.
All you have to do is look to OH and WI recent elections, young voters turned up in droves and that is bad news for the GOP.

The GOP went through the list of people with the most baggage to be speaker. It was a pretty exciting process.

I'm going to go over to the other thread about if there are any members of congress who aren't corrupt narcissists and who are in it for their own financial gain and their own power. I want to see if ANY of the conservative posters here in the WR actually thought, before MIKE JOHNSON made headlines this week, to name him as being NOT a corrupt bastard.

Abortion is a losing issue for the GOP. They need to move to the center on abortion and LGB rights or they probably won't win back Congress for a while.

In the last 75 years, the worst unconstitutional decision by the Court was when Roe v Wade where they mandated legal abortion upon the States. That was corrected.

Ok but that has nothing to do with what I said. If the GOP managed to pass a federal ban the SC would just let it stand if that’s what they felt like doing. There’s no mechanism to force them to do otherwise.

No, they wouldn't. The Supreme Court's job is to ensure the Constitution is being followed. That's why they over turned Roe v Wade. It is illegal and unconstitutional to have a federal ban on abortion. It wont' happen and it's just a scare tactic by the left to rabble their base.

Scare tactic! Johnson was actively trying to passing bills banning abortion.

Also Johnson want to cut Social Security and Medicare. I guess you need to do that in order too cut more taxes on the Elite.

They used to ramble off all the time about how the SC overturning Roe was a scare tactic lmao. The SC can do whatever the fuck they want within the scope of their own power, which is immense. As K1 correctly pointed out, there's no mechanism forcing them to do much of anything one way or the other.
