Some random thoughts regarding everyone's performances:
- Kevin Alvarez lost to another 220-lber. for best lifter and ended up with the second-best coefficient of the meet. He was also six pounds from an Elite total at 220. He's one of three lifters who are now ranked in the top 50 in their weight class from our team. He has a killer squat (this was without knee wraps, too) and a very solid deadlift.
- Seth Thompson is a new team member, and he was competing in his first meet. I was really impressed with his technique and his attempt selection. He missed his final bench press but hit everything else with ease. For a young kid, totaling over a thousand and going 8-for-9 is an awesome accomplishment.
- Nate Poage is a really awesome squatter who's also a bit of a beanpole (he's 5'8"). He set a PR in the squat and got his first Elite total as a lifter. When he fills out a bit, he's going to be a force at 165 lbs. I think the plan, for the time being, is for him to compete at 148 lbs.; look for him to break 1200 by the end of the year.
- Chris Anderson competed in the teenage division at this meet. He's got an awesome squat, and his deadlift is fast improving. He went 5-for-9 on this day and really struggled on bench, but he's capable of 1300+ for a total.
- George Foutris had a lot left in the tank on his deadlifts, I thought. He's also a pretty good squatter, and his only issue is that his bench press sucks. He's working on it diligently, and he made strides on it today. He's another lifter who will cross 1300 lbs. for us very soon.
- I expect Monty and Logan will break 1000 lbs. soon; hopefully it will happen as soon as next meet. Both really struggle on bench (a theme for our team) and need to improve there to boost their total.
