Keosawa's Powerlifting Log

I'm not good with internet marketing or anything, but rest assured, if someone were to sell these on the sherdog, I'd buy a black one.

hint

Well, I weighed 151.8 upon waking up this morning, so I'm definitely retaining less water now. It wasn't my intention to be so thin, but I am, and I'm probably lighter than I've ever been heading into a meet. My weight cut should be easy enough to have a light lunch on the day of my weigh-ins.

Good that your weight is on course Keo, have you got any epic meals planned for once you've weighed in? My brother who fights semi pro goes a little crazy once he's made weight

We're going to a great barbeque place in Des Moines after we weigh in. Assuming I don't have a bad meet, I'll probably take the next week to relax from my diet and indulge.

How many people from your school team/club are competing this weekend? I thought about how cool it would be to go as a team, but then I imagined how distracted I would be. It's hard for me to get into the zone with friends around for some reason.

We have eight from our team competing. It isn't a distraction to me; I'm there on a mission, and that's to obtain the highest total possible. When I'm stepping out on the platform for an attempt, I'm not really thinking about anything else besides the lift. And I'm not someone who needs to "focus" for a long time in advance. All I need is a few span of a few minutes to get in the right frame of mind.

And Babyeater isn't competing, but she is coming to support me. Babyeater's interested in someday doing figure competitions; her strength base is impressive, but I'm not trying to persuade her to try powerlifting, or anything else for that matter. So, she'll be there to cheer us on--and to get a taste of what a small strength-sport competition is like.

...And it sounds like NASA Iowa States is going to be a big meet. Rich Peters is predicting over a hundred lifters will be there. Last year I think there were around 60.

Also, is your lady competing? If not, she should!

As Keo reported, I'll just be there to support and to watch. I am so excited, it's ridiculous. This is going to be awesome. And I have to admit that while I'm fascinated by the process of training for figure/bodybuilding, doing that 225 deadlift a while ago was honestly one of the more incredible physical experiences I've ever had. The idea of training for and executing some really huge lifts is starting to be very attractive at this point. In other words, I do not know what I'm going to be doing with my lifting in a year, but whatever it is, I'm taking it to the next level.

Plus 1 for you competing :D

Just do one for fun sometime, and then you will be hooked

Nice lifting though

Doing one for fun.... kind of sounds awesome. Aaaaaaa. Hmmmmmm.

Haha, I did one for fun back in November, they are addicting. Doing my second one Saturday

Competing will take your training to a whole 'nother level. All of your training is geared towards a goal, one day, marked on the calendar, where you lay it all on the line.

Everyday you feel like shit or don't want to train you think about the comp and you fuckin' do it anyway where otherwise you'd just go home and sit on your ass. Competition should be what fuels you. Whether it's competing to break your own records or world records.

It's this mentality that's relatively new to me, one I've been cultivating over the last year and definitely over the last few months. I was never athletic growing up; one semester of track in high school was it. So I'm late in the physically competitive mindset game. Really late. Going to the meet on Saturday is going to give me a chance to watch a lot of competitors and see how they handle competition first-hand. And I will definitely be doing some live logging for Keo--or I'll just give him my phone if he wants to do so himself--so I might end up being somewhat productive too. Or at least my phone will.

Okay, I'm going to log my weight-cutting progress, even though this is a pretty easy cut and I'm not actively doing much for it.

Last night, after my last class, I weighed 155.0 and went to bed at 153.2. I had my last meal at around 6, and I haven't had any fluids since that time. I'm now 150.6, and I'll be headed to our gym in a few minutes to re-check my weight and possibly spend a session or two in the steam room. This morning I had three granola bars (2.5 oz total), and I'll have a wheat bagel with some peanut butter at around 2pm. My goal is to eat a little today just to make the act of eating a little easier on me when dinner rolls around.

Anyway, I'm two pounds away right now and I feel great; I'm not lethargic or hungry at all. This is my easiest-ever cut to 148 lbs. (these cuts have gotten progressively easier since the first, as it seems I'm consistently leaning out from one meet to the next), so I don't expect there to be any problems. Weigh-ins are in ten hours.

great job on the weight cut. gotta feel good about that coming in to a meet haha

Glad to see you're making weight well. Good luck tomorrow, put up some big PRs for yourself, and the sherdog!

I just saw that jester--thanks!

I got to the gym weighing 150.4, and after two rounds in the steam room I weighed 149.3. Afterwards, I had my bagel with peanut butter, so my weight is probably back up to around a pound over the 148.7 weight limit. I will be resting here for the next three hours. Hopefully I'll pee again. In three hours, I'll head back over to the gym to check my weight and make sure I'm leaving Iowa City on weight. I feel very good, and being able to consume some calories during the day has been a luxury I haven't had in the past.

The easier the weight cut, the better!

Good luck tomorrow, Kill it!
