Opinion Kaitlin Clark accused of having "white" and "pretty" privilege

Disagree with virtually every point.

The notion that, "to some people" warrants attention is absurd. Anything can be justified using that approach.

Who says other players are more talented? You?
What happens if the general public disagrees with you and/or others who make that claim?

Your conclusion on "why" CC is being marketed is highly debatable, and again, I disagree. She is being marketed because consumers are responding to the marketing. Declaring the primary driver of response as race is a very large claim that in return requires significant proof. Do you have any relevant evidence, or is that a feeling?

"As much winning" is a silly point for a team sport. It's the fallback for any player argument that lacks statistical support on an individual basis, and people making the argument inevitably create excuses on why their own logic does not apply when faced with simple examples harming the argument.

Ex. Luc Longley. He had quite a bit of "winning". Do you really want to start comparing him, and others, to the best players that never won, or had consistently poor team records?

I'm sorry, but your entire post looks like rationalization and justification. Nothing there is persuasive.

And, for the record, here is the current stat breakdown of CC vs. Reese, with CC ahead in 9 of 10 stats:

7 G 4
15.4 PTS/G 12.3
5.4 TRB/G 7.8
6.3 AST/G 1.5
1.1 STL/G 1.0
0.9 BLK/G 0.0
.371 FG% .357
.316 3P% .000
.889 FT% .633
.472 eFG% .357
That's a pretty big misrepresentation of what I said. I led my analysis with a simple phrase:

IMO, CC deserves attention because she's really good and she's got the college scoring record to prove it.

So, let's not confuse my analysis of what's happening with my personal opinion.

She didn't win anything. Lebron James, Michael Jordan, Wayne Gretzky, Tiger Woods, Manchester United, etc. All elite sports icon are judged on winning. IF they win, the attention is warranted. If they don't then the people who are winning are in a position to question why the attention is on the person who isn't winning.

The Angel Reese thing blew up from this:

And the news story that called the LSU team "villains" and "dirty debutantes".

People cannot divorce the history here because it's been brewing for 2 years. This isn't some story that started when CC reached the WNBA.

That's why I said "IMO, CC deserves attention because she's really good and she's got the college scoring record to prove it."

She's got the record and she's a great player. But the flip side is that she's never won anything. And top end players, like Breanna Stewart, who is white has said that it matters. So, if the players who are winning aren't getting the attention like the players who aren't winning then there's going to be some bad feelings there.

I don't know if you watched Davidson back when Steph Curry was there. He was cooking the other teams. But they never won anything. So while people praised his individual talent, he wasn't elevated to another level just because of it.

Women's basketball has a way to go before they can find the balance. However, they do need a Caitlin Clark if they want to increase their marketability. She's relatable and that makes her marketable. Plus every sport needs a person/team to love/hate so they can craft storylines around them.
Your failed analogies have become such a running joke it's hard to believe you aren't a bot at this point.

Nobody gave a shit of any significance about women's basketball whether it be college or professional. CC changed all that by draining 3's as the Steph Curry of women's bball and drew a monstrous fan base during a time when people were eager to see women's sports succeed. Somehow you compare Curry at Davidson years before Instagram and social media dominance to the woman's messiah who brought in millions of new fans across the country. I've seen it all but your Billy Madison moniker is pretty spot on.

I wonder why Paige Van Zant and even Kayla Harrison don't get paid like Ronda Rhousey, show up on shows like Entourage or draw the same ppv numbers. It's almost as if the time, generation, and mass appeal means something.

"She's never won anything" is a ridiculous thing to hold against someone. It's fucking stupid. Perhaps that's why I don't give two shits about team sports--endless blaming and claiming credit.
It's a sports thing. LBJ had it held against him until he won something. Jerry West (who eventually won), Pistol Pete, etc. Winning is the metric for greatness in many, many circumstances.

Watch Charles Barkley and Shaq go at it on TNT. Chuck was a great player but Shaq always points to his championships as proof of his greatness and Chuck can't (although we all know the Shaq is compensating for the reality that Chuck is the better analyst and more loved media figure).

When are you going to learn, these shows make dumb arguments for clicks, which is why I will not click the video. I am too smart to fall in that trap, nor will give them another click to sell to advertisers. I bet most of the time they all sit around with each other planning some dumb shit to say, just so it gets turned into rage porn.

The chicks in the WNBA should be kissing her ass though, because she is about to make more money for all of them.
She brings eyes to a product that desperately needs them. I am not sure when the WNBA TV contract is up, because I have not followed the WNBA since Juwanna Mann retired, but I am sure based on the current ratings, they are going to get more money on the next one. More money means a higher salary cap(based on the structure of the collective agreement), which means everyone makes more money. Here is the other thing, secondary stars in the league will also have access to endorsements, because those that cant afford Clark or what she turns down, will get offers being the next best thing.
It's akin to Tiger Woods in golf. He changed the tour and brought in huge purses, sponsorships money and opportunities for all. The few dip shits that spoke retard, anti CC BS like Angel Reese ended up getting treated like pariahs for their stupidity... Sadly, we have such racism in this country (the exact opposite type these morons on the View blather) that Angel Reese gets opportunities for being a hate fueled racist and mediocre woman's basket player...

You clearly can't read...which isn't surprising. My failed analogies...when literally that's the parallel that the college basketball world used to describe her over and over again?

It's pretty obvious to me that I'm one of the few people who actually followed the women's tournament last year and this one. While most of you only started paying attention to this when your favorite political tweet told you to pay attention, the sports world has been talking about it since 2023.

Since it seems a lot of people obviously have no idea what's happening here until some political pundit told them to pay attention, here is the genesis of the issue:

you-cant-see-me-lsu-iowa.jpg

Both players used the same "You can't see me" gesture. But when the player on the left did, the media promoted it as toughness and competitiveness. But when the player on the right did it to the player on the left, members of the media attacked the player on the right and her team as going too far.

That's where the whole thing comes from.

That's not what the CC thing is about though. The issue that underpins is that, to some people, she's not good enough to warrant the attention that she's getting. And that there are more talented female college players and definitely WNBA players who the media are ignoring. And they're being ignored because CC is more marketable. And, let's not bs ourselves, part of why she's more marketable is because she matches the largest potential consumer demographic in the country.

They're right and they're wrong.

IMO, CC deserves attention because she's really good and she's got the college scoring record to prove it. But she's not the first really talented female player to come out in recent years and, in terms of accomplishments, CC hasn't done as much winning as others have. However, the college media space definitely pitted her image as a decent looking and talented white basketball player vs. the image of the LSU team from last year that was predominantly black and, in particular, juxtaposed her vs. Angel Reese.

That's where the whole "It's because she's white..." thing started. College media used less flattering language to describe the LSU team, sometimes even implying negative things about them while glorifying CC. After LSU beat CC's team, the media again criticized the LSU players for un-ladylike conduct while ignoring that CC is an avid trash talker herself.

The good vs. evil imagery that the media was utilizing is why CC is catching the backlash that she's getting.

She didn't create it but she's definitely benefitting from it when it comes to marketing. And for the black women, in college and in the WNBA, being used as the evil foil to Caitlin Clark's ascendancy strikes them as unfair.

I feel like an incredibly hateful racist person like you probably isn't a guy that's gonna have a good take on this lol.

You made up a ridiculous failed analogy to poke fun at anti-CC folks by asserting they are fucking stupid and don't understand the difference? I only watched the tournament finals to check on my 10U UConn bet. I don't need Barkley on Twitter or whoever you are implying to tell me to watch something...

Also the white player explained it wasn't 'you can't see me' and it wasn't directed at anyone and the other girl chased her around doing it aggressively at her after a game.

Clown lol.

I always thought growing up the common notion of women hate women and women are jealous of other women (especially if said women has looks and/or money) was exaggerated but then I ended up working in a profession that's 90% females and it's 100% true. The amount of jealousy and insults I hear daily is unbelievable. Couldn't imagine waking up every day with that amount of hate.
Yup. When I started work at an office that was mostly women, it was a real eye-opener. Their claws were always out for one another. And it's funny, because the women were all super nice to me (often too "nice"). Men might be quicker to go at it with their fists, but women excel at emotional violence, especially towards other women.

They're not wrong.

If she wasn't white, you can bet your ass we'll never even have heard of her

Yeah because Tiger Woods didn't change golf, Michael Jordan and Kobe didn't change B Ball. Mike Tyson didn't change boxing. It's always dem white folx bringing crowds to sports, regardless of skills like breaking the all time scoring record. Yes, the all time scoring record and most prestigious of all awards in NCAA basketball...

She got it from rapper John Cena, he did the you cant see me, gimmick.

Michael Jordan and Kobe didn't change B Ball.
Technically before Bird and Magic, the NBA used to tape delay the finals. So they would play at night and you would watch the game the next afternoon on like CBS, NBC or ABC, whomever had the rights.
Bird and Magic made the NBA and Jordan took it to another level. Even though David Stern was a massive dick, he had the forethought to make the NBA an international game, using Jordan's popularity, to take it overseas, which is why we have foreign dudes in the NBA as some of the best players. The NBA is big in Europe and China. The NFL is trying to drive the same roads the NBA paved, by playing games in Europe and South America. The Phillies are playing in England this year. MLB is trying to catch up but not sure if will catch on like the other 2.
