Opinion Kaitlin Clark accused of having "white" and "pretty" privilege

Clark did that gesture every game, impersonal in nature, like Ronaldo's 'siu'. Reese mocked it, which is directed personally at Clark. So it is fundamentally different and inherently antagonistic.

But that's nothing compared to the taunting that goes on in the men's game. Reese was held to a different standard there, unfairly. How many times we see a 'rock the baby', 'too short' or finger wag taunts in the NBA. Part of the fun.

More an issue of sexism than racism. From what I understand both Clark and Reese were fine with it . The pearl clutching and paternalism came from the media.
Clark should start doing that again i am serious these wnba players are trying to put her in her place dont allow it

The media pearl clutches for clicks.
Also Larry Bird was one of the biggest shit talkers in the NBA, and he is remembered fondly for it. Jordan was also a notorious shit talker and people chalk that up to killer instinct.
The Reese/Clark thing for anyone who has played a sport was not a big deal. I for one enjoyed it.

I keep seeing this name but I don't know anything about her. I'm going to see how long I can stay in the dark..

I'm guessing white tranny politician or athlete..

I'm not checking back in on this thread.

Are we ever going to get a tranny WNBA superstar? Really hope so for the shits and giggles.

I agree. Basketball has been racist against short, black, ugly people for far too long.

false. Even the opposing players have backed up caitlyn clarks claim that she never did the hand gesture towards any opponents, it was done directly at her strength and conditioning coach on the sideline. Angel Reese on the other hand did it to her opponents face after winning.
Its crazy to me that people are this stupid and equate the two things.

If Brad Purdy flexed in front of his own bench / staff when he’s on fire during a regular season game to celebrate or hype them up and then after the Superbowl Mahomes chased him down, flexed in his face while mugging him and then pointed at his championship ring finger and waved bye bye to him…….. not the same thing. Athletes celebrate to their own team and bench all the time, that same exact celebration would be taunting and poor sportsmanship if they did it to the opposing team. Clark wasn’t called out because it was benign and directed at her own team.

Like saying it’s okay for you to slap someone else’s wife’s ass because the husband did it (slapping your own wife’s ass would be the same thing). One is acceptable and the other isn’t (is disrespectful). Nuance is lost on many these days. If you think Reese was giving Clark a taste of her own medicine your brain isn’t functioning properly and is on a-typical emotional contrarian auto pilot “iT’s OkAy wHeN Da wHiTe GuRL dOeS iT”.

That's a pretty big misrepresentation of what I said. I led my analysis with a simple phrase:

So, let's not confuse my analysis of what's happening with my personal opinion.

She didn't win anything. Lebron James, Michael Jordan, Wayne Gretzky, Tiger Woods, Manchester United, etc. All elite sports icon are judged on winning. IF they win, the attention is warranted. If they don't then the people who are winning are in a position to question why the attention is on the person who isn't winning.

The Angel Reese thing blew up from this:

And the news story that called the LSU team "villains" and "dirty debutantes".

People cannot divorce the history here because it's been brewing for 2 years. This isn't some story that started when CC reached the WNBA.

Exactly. Now everyone wants to pretend that they care about CC because of her play on the court. But, in reality, no one cared about her until Angel Reese taunted her. Most people didn't know who she was until that game with LSU and all the media driven fallout surrounding it. And thats because people generally don't care about women's basketball. She could have been ballin like prime MJ out there and no one would give a fuck.

But what Americans really love is a good culture war and this is that. And once the culture war angle loses steam, I predict interest will recede too. The question is will what remains be bigger than it was before? It's undoubtedly good for the league right now. Long term impact is yet to be determined.

You might be asking yourself, who the fuck is Kaitlin Clark, and I can't blame you, I mean who the fuck cares about women's basketball?

Certainly not me, but apparently the WNBA viewership is up 21% since Clark joined the league.

You would think that she would be a hero to all the girl power lefties as well as all the poc's for bringing more attention to the league, but no on the contrary she has received a lot of hate from these very same people you would think would be her allies.

Apparently her being white is a big problem, and people being more interested in WNBA now that the top player is a white girl is now very problematic.

Here is one of the hens from "the view" claiming that Clark is popular because... wait for it... RACISM.

You'll notice she tries to throw in "pretty" and "tall" privilege in there as well to try to divert from the fact that her only real problem with Clark is that she's white and that she also has the audacity to be straight while being white.

The "tall privilege" makes no sense since Clark is just 6' tall which is very average for the league, and the pretty privilege makes no sense either because this is what Clark looks like.

Not to put her down, but she's like a 5/10 and average at best with very little feminine curves to add to her sex appeal... just an average to sub-par looking white girl who's the average height in the league. It's very obvious that all her popularity was earned by nothing but merit and ability to play the sport.

So yeah that just leaves us with her being WHITE and STRAIGHT, that is her only real crime.

Anyway, it's not like anyone expects anything intelligent from the view, I imagine that even the most devoted lefties here won't care to defend that group of vile hens, but it's still pretty blatant how acceptable racism against white people has become.

Just imagine some white guy 15 years ago complaining that black people are only starting to follow golf because Tiger Woods is black.

Even if both of these cases were true, even if white people are only tuning in because the best player is white, and black people only tuned in because the best player was black, why would this be a problem for anyone, and what would they like to be done about it?

Just trying to grasp the average woke idiot's logic, why is this a problem and what should we do about it??

Her face reminds me of Chris D'Elia

imagine being a grown man and writing up this whole ass thread to cry about the WNBA. Stop it. Get some help.

It's a basketball court. Unlike a football field, all of the players are in close proximity at all times while on the court. They are talking shit and hearing shit talk the entire time they are out there. We don't know what CC or Reese said during the actual game.

This shit happens in basketball all the time. Klay Thompson did the 4 rings taunt to Devin Booker on a Wednesday night during the regular season while the Warriors were getting blown out and lost by 30 after he was ejected.

It's such a nothing burger. Everyone who has ever played a pick up game as either talked some shit or been on the receiving end of it. It's basically apart of basketball culture.

I don’t care about that stuff honestly.

It’s still a false equivalency. One was a celebration the other was a taunt. Those saying player B gave player A a taste of her own medicine are still incorrect contextually.

Now let’s use MMA or Boxing an even smaller more intimate setting as an example. If the fighter is facing his corner dancing, flexing, celebrating it’s fine. If he’s facing the opposing corner doing it while pointing at his waist where the belt is going and waving bye bye it’s a taunt. You following? Or glossing over that part still. You ignored the differences and just said “it’s okay to shit talk”. I agree “it’s okay to shit talk” but acting like the two things are the same to excuse it is dumb.

Yes. I'm saying who gives a fuck? Anyone who criticized Reese for taunting is an idiot. I don't care if equivalent or not. It shouldn't even be a discussion.
