Yeah that would be the ideal situation but are you suggesting the UFC should take a loss on the event to pay Jon his FU money? What if he wins and doesn't retire and keeps demanding FU money? Now he's got Dana by the balls and I think Dana will move on before that happens
Not sure how the biggest cheat of all-time managed to cuck the CEO and president of the UFC. Kind of mind-blowing really. Jon would have Dana by the balls, but by Dana letting him have his balls in the first place.
If my
employee independent contractor told me he's not building my deck, or wiring my house, or paving my driveway for less than $30 million dollars or else, when he has no real leverage... that's an interesting strategy.
I get it. Jon's fans want to see him paid super-well on the way out. That's a noble thought, maybe Jon deserves it, maybe not. But dragging this out ONLY works to Jon's advantage.
Dana should just announce the HW titles being unified at MSG '25 no matter what, make Gane the alternate, and whoever shows up shows up. That gives Jon his 6 months, his special gloves, and the once-a-year-fight in his own backyard. Tom will just be happy he got his date, the UFC has time to build a stacked card to pump the sales, and all this fucking nonsense can be over.
If Jon retires instead of showing up, the UFC doesn't actually lose anything by Jon fading away into eternal duckiness. Jon gets no payday, has no more title, and can't fight elsewhere. The UFC still gets a title defense, an event and a champion.
And if Jon's swan song proves to be the charade against Stipe, then Jon and Lebron can be the dynamic duo of try-hardests ever. Some of the people here saying Jones deserves to be paid fairly are the same ones who was cheering for Dana not paying Francis. Fickle crowd we are.
Once Conor and Jon are officially gone, I think you'll see the UFC keep tighter reins on their champs.
