Jon Jones Responds to Retirement Criticism

That’s the deflection you guys make. “It’s only on this small corner of the internet where this is the narrative”

That’s not true. The casuals know the truth. If you went outside and spoke to every day people once in a while you would know that.

Unfortunately, this is a niche "sport", and most everyday people have no clue who Jon Jones is. You should take the grocery store challenge and see how many people know what you're talking about. And the fact that your take on Jon's legacy is just your opinion, is not a deflection. Many others disagree with you. Khabib, GSP, Matt Brown, Chael Sonnen, Anderson, etc. Have nice day.

Okay I’ll bite.

The casuals that do know he exists, they know he’s a fraud who’s spent the last 2 years ducking Tom Aspinall. Your argument is played out, and boring. Like the rest of your posts.

True dat.

Seems like the police are more in control of your destiny than you are right now Jon.

Also...quack!

Nah the Teflon Jon will beat this rap. I wouldn't be too concerned about it. Good lawyers and a hell of a lot of luck have always been on Jon's side. Some shroomed out drunk chick with her pants off won't really be taken at her word.

Open fracture, at that. How many guys have finished their opponent with a bone literally poking out of their body? Yea man, it must be TeH sTeRoIdsszzz Aaaarrgghhhh!

There she is. Bickering and gossiping. You’re a joke bud and we don’t share the same values.

Ouch man. Why you making it personal? Do you do this to everyone who disagrees with you?

It's not that he retired on top. It's that he held up the division for two years. Not even Conor jammed things up for that long. It's as clear as day what the problem is and he's sidestepping it completely, intentionally defending himself against an accusation nobody made. Classic narcc behavior
I'm pretty certain Conor sat on the LW title for 2 years until he was stripped.

Edit: Nov 2016 to April 2018 was his LW title reign, more like a year and half and then stripped.

This thing really gets to you on a personal level. I can see that. It's just MMA dude. Lighten up. The GOAT of our sport happens to be a bad person, a troll, and a dirty fighter. Shit happens. Fortunately, you have guys like GSP and Khabib to counterbalance the Jon's of the world. He's not your cup of tea, that's fine. But if you try and re-write history and make up a fantasy that Jon isn't the best to ever do it, you're going to get some pushback.

Retirement's not the issue. He should have retired before he took an exhibition fight instead of fighting the rightful contender and then holding the belt hostage, daring Dana to strip him and showing everyone a complete lack of respect. You see the difference right?

He did a shitty thing at the end of his career by squatting on the belt and holding up the division. I don't think that's up for debate. This was very disrespectful to the fans and incredibly selfish. I understand why people feel slighted about it.

However, this doesn't mean that the guy wasn't a great cage fighter. A shitty act at the tail end of a career doesn't erase everything that he accomplished. In the words of Jon on a scooter, "I don't think it works like that."

It's a little amusing how were all supposed to pretend a bunch of people who train to beat the living fuck out of other people in a cage for money are admirable folks.

Quite amusing. These are probably the same people who forgave Mike Tyson for being a convicted rapist and biting another man's ear off in the cage. Jon's exploits almost seem pedestrian in comparison. I think these jilted school girls are just more upset that they never got to see Jon lose in the cage. I totally get it. I wanted to see Khabib lose quite badly. I've made peace with it and moved on. Hopefully these guys can also find peace.

I think this is a bingo. A lot of this angst probably would have went away if they got to see Jon get KO'd just one time. Get over that severe blue balling. Bust that nut out.

The problem was the UFC not stripping him quicker. Retirement is fine, but don’t keep the division hostage.

The value of accomplishments are subjective. It's human nature to elevate the accomplishments of people who are liked and respected and to discount those of people who aren't. If he's really concerned about his legacy he shouldn't have gone out of his way to completely piss off the media and fans because they are the ones who determine legacies, not a win/loss sheet.

Jones did not do much at HW, but at LHW he is far and away the GOAT. He ducked nobody in that division. GSP was gifted a MW title shot, then immediately retired instead of fighting a legit contender.
Yup, same thing Jones did.
Gane was a solid win.

<BidenShutIt>

So much for “riding off into the sunset”

Completely destroyed his legacy

Also, you can’t be the goat if you didn’t play by the same rules as those who came before you. What I mean by that is Anderson, MM, Aldo, GSP, Fedor they all fought the best. None of them ducked an obvious contender like Jones.

Nah MMA fans shit on GSP the same way, said he cherry picked easy fight Bisping, criticized him for ducking Whittaker/not defending title after that. At least the food news for Jones is that MMA fans will forget all about this in a few years because they'll have a new target to shit on instead.

It's somewhere in the middle. Big sports fans know even if they're not MMA diehards. The ESPN effect. First Take spent an entire segment the other day on Jones, Aspinall, etc.

Random people who don't follow sports in general closely and watch ESPN absolutely wouldn't have a clue.
