Jon is being a bitch here pure and simple - nothing particularly surprising about this either as despite being almost certainly the most talented mixed martial artist of all time Jon has constantly taken an incredibly insecure mentality towards his career.

He should be stripped and him and Stipe can be a retirement fight for bragging rights but nothing more - any other action paints the UFC as a joke organisation in having a HW Champ defending an interim title while another guy sits on the real thing whilst openly stating how he won't unify because he doesen't want the smoke.

He's techinically on a 7 fight win streak(and id say a draw if you count the injury).

Why is Jon refusing to fight the interim champion? Jon is the champion. There's no cope. Just fucking frustration. I don't even care if Jon is scared of Aspinall or not. Just give up the belt and stop holding up the division. Or just fight.

He’s not really holding up anyone. Tom has a belt and will get paid like a champion no matter who he fights. They basically are trying to have their cake and eat it too. They want the GOAT vs the heavyweight GOAT to have a title on the line, but they want to not hold the belt up.

It’s dumb from an optic standpoint, but he’s not holding Tom up or stopping him from being champion from refusing to fight him first or whatever.

I think the UFC is just admitting they don’t give a shit what the hardcores think and are just gonna cram titles down our throat.

Jon is bigger than the belt, and beating him is more important than winning the belt, which is why Tom wants him so bad and doesn’t just want a random title defense. But the UFC wants Jon to have a belt when he fights Stipe too. It’s weird, but whatever.

When did ranking and wins ever matter to the UFC matchmakers? Many former champs have that privilege of picking fights based on drawing power. Jon Jones doesn't need to fight aspinall, simple as that really.

Lol it’s not about rankings, he’s the interim champion. Unless jones quickly retires after stipe he actually does have to fight him. In fact this may be the first time a fighter has had to defend an interim title. What a fuckin shambles!

In an ideal world Aspinall should just defend the interim title 4 times, take the record but then have people "complain it's only an interim he's been dfending", forcing the UFC to address how they've devalued their belts

In the real world, if I'm Aspinall I'm fighting whoever, whenever, because he likely/probably beats everyone not named Jon quite easily

Defend the interim =- become the real HW champ in people's minds = become a big money fight

It's a championship fight before retirement, there's no reason to strip him. He's the champ. There was no reason to make an interim title.
