Just had a chance to watch it yesterday.
6/10. Better than the usual Hollywood crap, definitely above average but nothing special.
Joaquin Phoenix' acting was superb, absolutely amazing. However the screenwriters should be shot - movie was full of clichés from the first moment to the last unfortunately. Obviously some disconnected Hollywood nerds wrote the script. Seen much better movies this year, but not really a better performance than Joaquin's.

Too much similarities to Taxi Driver, aswell.
 
Reportedly Todd Phillips is getting a hefty payday for his work on the DC Comics film. According to The Hollywood Reporter, sources say the 48-year-old Phillips will earn near $100 million for Joker. This comes from Phillips passing on his upfront payment in order to take a larger portion fo the film’s adjusted gross. It’s a deal similar to the one he had with Warner Bros. for the first Hangover movie. That film made $467.5 million on a $35 million budget in 2009. Two sequels followed, turning the series into a $1.42 billion box office film franchise.

Yeah, I didn't get that vibe either. There was nothing that said he hated women or anything sexual at all. I guess people look at living with and taking care of his sick mum, and being down on his luck as him being an incel.

What? No. Todd Phillips gave an interview about how he began filming scenes with Arthur and his neighbor going on dates and it "didn't feel right to him" so he turned it all into wishful fantasy. Arthur breaks into her house and makes her feel unsafe. How are you not getting the violent incel connotation

he’s not motivated by his inability to have sexual relations w/ women & doesn’t hold animosity towards other men for their sexual exploits. ik incel is a hot buzzword these days, but it just does not apply here.

The whole incel thing is so overblown. There was ONE truck attack like two years ago where the guy posted on incel forums lol.

i wouldn’t consider the incel community to be this overblown thing, generally speaking. i do believe a majority of them are way too cowardly to actually radicalize to the point of domestic terrorism like an Eliot Rogers or Alek Minassian, but i do think there is some social dangers to their whole shitty ideology & hatred. the internet definitely doesn’t help these dipshits get the help they need because of the echo chamber online communities they’re members off.

but yeah, all the journalists proclaiming that Joker was going to be socially irresponsible & incite violence amongst the incels ended up looking like absolute fucking morons in the end. so embarrassing.

he followed her one time.
just because he has delusions of having a romantic connection w/ the neighbor is not indicative of incel behavior. the movie spells out for you in language a 4 year old could read that Arthur Fleck is very mentally ill & he has vivid delusions due to his illness. the neighbor thing weren’t the only delusions he was shown to experience.
regardless, neither of these two things an incel makes.

you clearly have no idea what incel is & what it means when someone identifies as an incel.
