Media Joe Rogan believes Gable Steveson is already ELITE among UFC Heavyweights

Do you think Gable Steveson would instantly be a top-5 Heavyweight if he joined the UFC today?

Good to know. I still have a lot of doubts though because this guy seemingly wanted to do anything other than mma before settling on mma as a last resort
Oh, that I agree. He didnt seem to be passionated about mma at all, but he seems to have accepted his fate

Yes, let us list Rogan's beliefs, so we can all laugh

We have seen him rock someone and get so over excited that he entirely abandoned all of his heralded wrestling ability.
It’s crazy to hate a guy so much that you try to shit on him even when he’s right

I'm pretty convinced that the only thing separating non-top 5 UFC and the regional fighters is that the UFC fighters just had a better chin to make it past the low levels.

The skill level and physical conditioning is a absolute dumpster fire. A gifted athlete like Gable can learn the basics of striking while leaning on his wrestling and athleticism to carry him the rest of the way. He may struggle with the top 3 until he really refines his striking but I see no issue with him being ranked.

I think people are letting their Jones hate cloud them again. Jones clearly is very invested in the success of Gable and his ego would not let him bet on a losing horse in a situation like this.
Right. I don't know to what degree Jon is a good mentor and coach. He could be amazing or he could be terrible, neither would surprise me.

But I do know that Jon isn't going to attach his name to a loser, so he has shown Jon enough. The easiest comparison to make is a more athletic DC when the good is going good at least. If Jon felt like he could be a better version of DC than he is wise to attach his name to the ride.

Joe Rogan is right on this. The heavyweight division is incredibly shallow at the moment.

Let me know when he beats a tough fighter. How can you be top 5 with no wins against any top 100 guys
I heard he ate at an Applebee's with Jon once.

Ergo, uncrowned undisputed champ. Must have absorbed his resume in between them eating the fries together.

Well he looks great on paper and we've seen that before. Gabe has to show up and prove himself, regardless of hype.

You never know how someone does under the big lights.

Not saying he's not going to be great, but you never know it could go either way.

Right now, for me, the only remaining question is how good his chin is. I thought he’d be another Brock Lesnar–level striker coming from a pure wrestling background, but even if it’s been against cans, he’s looked surprisingly fluid with the boxing at least. Better than Brock at his best ever looked in that regard.

He’s built like a fridge, so it looks like he’d handle body shots reasonably well. Still, his chin needs to be tested a bit before I’m fully sold.

I can tell you what I did look at: the best on-paper wrestling prospect in MMA hit an opponent harder than he thought he would, then lose all wrestling sense and ability and just started punching down at the guy from standing up almost entirely straight above him, just bent over at the waist to reach him. Now, I've heard of "ground & pound," but I've never heard of "hover & pound."

So yeah, people are free to question if he'll keep the wrestling skill in the cage at all times

That's a valid point, thanks.
