This is Poatan's toughest fight by far. I have it as a coin flip.
It's hard to say what will happen. But Poatan dont got no coin flip fights he should be the favorite, rightfully.

People are sleeping on Ankalaev though. He may be boring at times but do not confuse boring for lack of skill

Looks like Alex painted that hair on his face and head. I want Alex to win but he might not. Ank has lost a fight in a long time. He shouldn't have drawn with Jan that was a win. If Alex can work those leg kicks it's over but I doubt ank let's that happen twice.

The Poatan who fought Hill and Jiri 2 looked invencible, literally the Touch of Death

Against Kalil he looked more human, but I think it was because Kalil gave his all during the first two rounds and gased out

Like Abul against Strickland, "all in" on the first round, and he was dead tired on the second

With that being said, I don't see Ankalaev winning on the feet, Jiri beat him on the feet in my opinion, or he mix the martial arts and put him on the ground, or he is going to get KOed

Anyway, I still bet on Poatan

I'm going to pick Pereira, but it's the right time for this fight. It's the best thing at 205 right now.

I don't mind at all that Ankalaev had to beat a couple of guys after his bore draw, though, nor that he didn't get to challenge in the UAE.

The issue isn't that Ankalaev is boring; it's that, while he has an impressive undefeated streak going, he doesn't have any really impressive wins in the UFC, and none of the sort that would, absent the streak, support the claim that he belongs in the cage with Alex Pereira. Good long streaks matter and they get you title shots, but not all streaks are the same and for a 12 fight undefeated streak in the UFC that really should be a win streak, Ankalaev's streak sucks gangrenous donkey dick.

What's his best UFC win? Cutelaba 2? Oezdemir? Surely not the ghosts of Smith or Walker. What three fights would you show to someone who was thoroughly familiar with Poatan's work but who never saw Ankalaev fight to convince that person that Ankalaev was a particularly strong contender?

What's the elite skill set Ankalaev has demonstrated that matches up well against Pereira? His ground game is mediocre - better than Poatan's, to be sure, but far from elite and not anything like enough to expect Ankalaev to actually beat an ungassed Poatan on the ground - his takedowns are poor, and his standup is pretty good but not nearly Poatan good.

Ankalaev's getting his shot and he might well win, but Poatan really should be a heavy favorite.

That's the UFC's fault for puttin him in fights where he cant derail more popular contenders
