It took 1.5 rounds for Jan to make Ankalaev do the stanky leg

About 3 weeks ago he did a recap video of all of his fights for UFC Brazil. He mentioned that he studied Bruno a lot and that he went for the finish but that it can't always happens and gave a lot of credit to Bruno's toughness
Nice, going to watch this.

Do you think Ankalaev's leg kick defense has gotten good enough to deal with Poatan's calf kicks which might be the best in MMA?

And yet Jan landed one significant strike the final two rounds. You can talk about Ank poor defense vs leg kicks or you can talk about his resilience and adaptation to dominate the later rounds. Personally, I think it’s best to present the whole picture as oppose to selectively recall only certain parts of a fight to confirm my bias.

It's crazy that Jan brought both poatan and an ank essentially to a draw.
Pretty big difference if we add a couple of championship rounds to it though. Jan had zero chance of surviving two more rounds against Alex; he was too tired to get another TD and was getting stalked for a KO by the end of the 3rd. More rounds would have been a tossup in the Ank fight.

I hope Alex does use the leg kicks a lot to chop him down.

And Jan was the only guy who didn't got KTFO by Alex
He is underrated af
You’re 100% correct. He probably would have won if they weren’t at elevation as well. Hell, with different judges he could have won it was that close.

Jan was exhausted in the ank fight and nearly got finished in round 5. If there was more rounds in either of those fights he would lose

Except there could not have been more rounds in a 5 round fight, and there could have in a 3 round fight. Ank was unable to finish Jan in 5 rounds. Alex never had a chance because it was a 3 round fight.

A draw was the best Ank could do in 5 rounds. Alex would have slept him in the championship rounds, not really much question in my mind; there is no way in hell it would have been a draw if it had gone 5, Jan was exhausted and doomed. Fortunately, we will find out soon.

but it was also at elevation for Jan so he gassed even quicker in the alex fight

Anyone claiming "Poatan had it easy" while facing more champions and top 5 fighters than Khabib had to, who many put on their GOAT lists, should be ignored was the point. Khabib was just the example, I suppose it was a little too lateral of a thought for some people.

Polish Power kicked the shit out of Ank's legs then drew with him. The only reason he didn't win outright was Sal D'Amato's 10-8, otherwise Jan walks away with the belt.

Again...what on earth has Khabib got to do with it? Of all the "examples" to pick, it's a retired guy, in a different division, who has nothing in common with Alex.

You can cry about the judging in the Ank vs Jan fight, but Ank was better. Polish power lost against the Dag that night. He knew it himself after the fight.

Yup.

But then so would Alex.
Jan wouldn't have gassed that hard if he fought him closer to sea level like he did Ank.

Actually sea level Jan would've won the fight against Pereira since he'd actually have energy to do something while on top instead of just laying on him.

<WhatItIs>

That's a sea level excuse. Again, why wasn't Alex gassed?

Because his cardio is better suited for high altitude than 40 year old Jan, I'm assuming. Jan closer to sea level would've had energy to work from the top like he did against Izzy in the 5 rounder.
