Iran suffers from decades of being built up in public perception as a credible threat. In the same way North Korea is. The few outliers to the global order are always exaggerated as threats, but people who work closer to the ground in that area know that they can't be addressed like a conventional military power.

The more I think about it, I think Trump is just bluffing to push Iran to surrender. On the Rogan podcast, I remember him talking about bringing Bolton and letting other warhawks go under the media spotlight when he was dealing with North Korea.

If I'm proven right, I am going to bump this. So far, I havent seen a single poster come to this same conclusion, so if I'm right, I'll be the ONLY ONE I've seen with this theory.

What kind of surrender are you expecting?

A full, unconditional surrender, where the USA or some UN force come in to rebuild the country and set up a new constitution? If they did that, the Iranian revolutionary guard would probably all be hanged. I can’t see any “guarantees of safety” that they could trust.

But it seems about as likely as Saddam surrendering pre-invasion.
