Russia offered to help replenish Iran’s depleted uranium stockpile to support a peaceful nuclear program.

CTP-ISW previously assessed that Russia's involvement in the US-Iran nuclear talks would be very unlikely to secure US interests due to Russia's alignment with Iran. Russian Foreign Affairs Minister Sergei Lavrov stated on July 8 that Russia can receive and downblend Iran’s enriched uranium stockpile and return it to supply Iranian nuclear power plants. Downblending is the process of converting highly enriched uranium into low-enriched uranium. Russia previously accepted 11,000 kilograms of enriched uranium from Iran in December 2024 in exchange for natural uranium as part of the JCPOA. Russia also has previously offered to accept Iran's enriched uranium to "provide assistance" to the United States and Iran during the US-Iran nuclear negotiations before the Israel-Iran war. Neither the United States nor Iran accepted Russia's offer to mediate. Russia has repeatedly opposed the stated US demands in the negotiations by supporting Iran's right to enrich uranium and has consistently supported the Axis of Resistance against Israel.

* Russia can 'downblend' Iran's U-235 or enrich it to 90% bomb grade. Who is to say which way it is going to go?

Funny, a month and a half ago you Iran apologists vehemently denied this (reminder that Trump wasn't able to leave Obama's treaty until after he took office in 2016).

So...concession accepted.
The JCPOA wasn’t officially adopted until early 2016, so I don’t really see the point here. We didn’t deny that Iran had nuclear ambitions post 2010, that was the reason for the negotiation and deal in the first place.

Maybe if Iran has a bomb, they can get Israel to stop its genocide against the Palestinian people.

But you did! I'm calling bullshit. You Iranian apologists vehemently insisted they didn't have ambitions to build a nuclear weapon, and you maintained this up until the moment they got bombed, and the new dove's vomit-du-jour playbook became, "You can't stop them from building a nuclear weapon! You didn't meaningfully set them back!! They're going to build a nuclear weapon no matter what! It's inevitable!"

It also irks me to hear, "The JPCOA wasn't even officially implemented until October 2016" card. Okay, then, so spare everyone the nonsense about the JPCOA demonstrating any kind of real-world effectiveness in deterring their continued development of nuclear weapons. Because Trump effectively reneged in October 2017 (and our withdrawal became formal in May 2018). Meaning this treaty you guys won't STFU about lasted a whopping year. Whatever anyone would think to argue we could have learned inside a time window that pitiful isn't worth the roll of toilet paper you could scrawl it on. It didn't mean shit, it didn't accomplish shit, we didn't learn shit from it. They've been trying to build a nuclear weapon since the 90's, at a minimum, and we have observed the evidence towards that at interval after interval over the decades. Time has been our tutor.

“Iranian apologists”.

I said it went into affect early 2016, it lasted a year and a half or so, in which time Trump himself re-certified the deal twice, and when he decided not to do so the third time it wasn’t because of any violations of the deal on Iran’s part. All evidence indicates the deal was working, and that the situation we find ourselves in today is because of that deal being ended.

You even tried to play the “concession accepted” card with @San Marino when you were the one that was wrong. Own it. Trying to bolster your argument with vague generalizations isn’t convincing.

We live in a Clown world. Supporting Iran is as insane as it gets. They OPENLY admit to wanting to destroy Israel and the West. They support and fund terror globally. OF COURSE they are developing nukes, anyone that denies that is an idiot. Plenty of scientists have admitted it. I understand not supporting Israel, but supporting Iran is flat out dangerous. Clown World.

There threats ARE PUBLIC FFS.

Iran has made several threats, including attempted terrorist attacks, kidnappings, espionage, foreign influence operations, cyber attacks, sanctions evasion, and illicit procurement of sensitive technology to support its military capability and nuclear program.

LMFAO. All evidence for the past quarter century suggests Iran has been saying "Our nuclear program is peaceful" when it hasn't been peaceful at all. That is overwhelming. We say they're building a secret nuclear facility, they say they aren't, except, oh wait, they did. We say they've constructed centrifuges one would only need for weapons or "research", they say they don't, until, except, wait, yeah, they do (this goes back to magnet-gate). We say they're enriching uranium beyond what anyone would need for peaceful power-producing purposes, they say they aren't, except, oh wait, they are...and again, higher...and again, higher.....and again, higher.

That deal didn't do shit except increase the flow of money into the pockets of the hardline Iranian theocrats, and improve their political standing at home.

it also provided no incentive for them to stop funding terror all over.

Some enriched uranium survived US strikes on Iran nuclear sites, is still accessible: senior Israeli official

"At one point, Tehran had even considered dispatching an armed nuclear weapon with 90% enriched uranium to Houthi terrorists in Yemen to be fired at Israel, the official added. ...the official said that Iranian efforts to build an atomic weapon had stepped up following the killing of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah this past September."

What!

Story by Josh Christenson. Who is Josh? ...and who is the official?

Who could have see this coming?
