So is Islam going to vacate the ww belt to move down to LW and fight then or what? This is like boxing with guys jumping up and down now.

Seems like UFC had a lay up, with Topuria vacating his FW belt and Islam holding his LW one, could've booked this without messing with LW or WW divisions, which both are kind of screwed in different ways. But now we could potentially hold up both divisions in a log jam. Neither guy really is going to fight more than 2x a year. Not to mention the size difference is even more unfair for Topuria if they go with WW.

The whole situation is a mess and could've been avoided. UFC lost Jones/Aspinall, but could give us Islam/Topuria and DDP/Khamzat would've sweetened the year for fans. Topuria is good, but him at WW is ridiculous. Maybe the UFC could turn this into something bigger and add 165lb class and move WW to 175 after. Only way I think this situation gets corrected and is a bigger fight.

But: 3rd FW all time at best, just won the LW belt.

Islam is 1 win away of the best winning streak in the UFC.

No, at the moment Ilia has the best legacy in the history of MMA, its just a matter of if someone can take that away from him.

He's leaving all these legends KO'd cold. Charles was was laid out on the ground with his eyes open, but no one was home. We've never seen anything like this. This is another level.

It could have happened at 155. At 170--Islam's never coming back down--well, do you remember Silva vs. GSP? That was a realistic expectation in comparison. Ilia may fight at 170 someday, but it will be against Michael Bisping, not Anderson Silva, if it happens.

This is an unreasonable comparison IMO

Topuria moved up and openly called for the fight with Islam. He settled for Charles Oliveira, who himself is exquisitely more accomplished than a Bisping.

I love Georges and he's one of the best we've ever seen, but he was not brave in this regard. He waited for a soft target. Topuria is doing the exact opposite and has a level of self-confidence that is in an entirely different class.

JDM is on an undefeated 8-0 UFC streak and just beat the absolute dogshit out of Belal, who hadn't lost a fight in 5 years. Its a big challenge and shout out to Islam for actually moving up to fight a champion clearly in their prime. Jack is on a 18 fight win streak overall.

Islam fighting featherweight Volk twice didn't help the Topuria fight.

Now that Topuria is a champion and established at 155lbs, the fight makes a lot more sense for both parties. If Islam can beat JDM and that is a big "if," it sets up a legit superfight.

Max going back to featherweight after fighting Justin at 155lbs was a terrible decision. Your body simply does not want to do that, especially in your 30s.

Once Islam moves back up, he should not go back down. Max learned the hard way.

Fighting for the P4P #1 spot is a questionable proposition when it's not two similarly sized fighters. It would definitely be a superfight but that's about as far as I'd take it, even though most people of course use the P4P concept in a way where it makes zero sense to call it P4P.
