Is Velasquez overrated?

He is not overrated. Junior dos Santos is a beast and can Knock out anyone at any given day. Let

He and JDS had extremely similar resumes leading to their bout. The Ufc did not coddle Cain so if hes overrated that's not the reason

Actually, UFC was better served cuddling Brock more than anyone. The fact that they fed Brock to Cain seems to be rather odd if UFC really was trying to protect it's cash cows.

They also want Asians and Blacks too not to mention Indians and Brits. Your point?

A Mexican HW champion couldn't hurt. Considering that the HW championship is supposedly the most coveted in all of combat sports. That's a big deal to them Mexicans!!

Which still begs the question. What's your point as it relates to Cain being overrated? Do Mexicans ovverate Cain? Is he overrated be fans in general because the Ufc wants a Mexican champ? Does he get coddled because hes Mexican? If so, how and what are some examples?

I think being P4P number 1 is the most coveted in combat sports nowadays, even though there isn't a belt or championship for it.

Cain is a very good fighter, but I believe his standup is a bit overrated. He has some very hard legkicks, and hits hard when he hits his target, but his defense somehow questionable.

He's not really overrated by most people (some people get a bit blind between their support and actual rankings so some of his fans overstate his skills), he *is* extremely talented; his only loss is after a bad injury and a long lay off to arguably the best fighter in MMA history.

I would like to see him fight Werdum or Barnett if JDS beats him again, I think we'd get a better gauge of where he's at by seeing him fight some durable guys with good ground games.

I do think JDS will win, but beating Cain so hard that he transcends 10-point round scoring is perhaps a bit strong? ;)

He means that JDS has a 55% chance of winning and Cain a 45% chance in his opinion.

Does he get coddled because hes Mexican?

I have zero examples, as this is just an opinion

The UFC sees the Mexican fanbase is still holding on to boxing. The UFC wants that fanbase. That's potentially a lot of business. Dana White has expressed this a few times (no I don't remember exactly when so GTFO, lol).

A Mexican contender in the most "celebrated" and marketable division in combat sports is the perfect thing to create the conditions for the UFC to cut into that fanbase.

From a business perspective, you do the most practical thing to create the conditions to maximize a return.

Edit .... Accidentally hit post -

You market Cain as THE guy, to get those eyeballs that you wouldn't get otherwise. As long as he wins, maybe he doesn't have to win AS MUCH as some other guys because he's the ticket to potentially generating a lot of business

I think he is overrated but still very good. Also the only reason he was put into mainstream was because he beat Lesnar the previous juggernaut of the division. Who wasn't as good as everybody had previously thought anyway. He is good but he had a lot of hype following him into the Lesnar fight and that carried through for a while.

He is not very athletic, and is quite slow and plodding, so he is nothing special.

overrated? no. I think he's the best wrestler in the HW division. He's fast, strong and also have power but the problem is he can't take those heavy bombs (got KTFO by JDS, rocked a couple times by Congo), there's nothing wrong with his chin its just that those monsters punch so hard its like you got hit by a truck or something. Give him Mar Hunt's chin and he will be unstoppable.

Hard to say. His standup isn't the best, but I guess we'll see how his next fight goes.

Counter point. Its the HW division, its relatively thin and the other guys with top level resumes were unable to fight for the belt, Overeem and Cormier. If Cain wasn't fighting JDs next week who would?

More than that having a 6 fight stretch to your original title shot isn't uncommon. Or an example of not having to win as much as the other guy, in this case JDS who had to win seven.

Even if he loses to JDS again he is one of the best HWs of all time. It

If it was Frank Mir, instead of Cain who lost to JDS, and then beat Big Foot, you gotta wonder if he'd be getting another shot this quick.

The other thing is that I think with that first FOX show, there was a lot of pressure for them to fight regardless of their health, which is wack. The show must go on though. So it's like they owe Cain one for basically making him fight injured. But again, they'll do anything to keep the Golden Mexican happy :icon_chee

If the JDS fight was Frank Mirs only lost, and the two other guys who made sense couldn't be booked? They probably make that fight, yes.

Buisness obviously plays a role in matchmaking decisions, however the JDS Cain rematch makes sense from a practical stand point as well.

Not even close u can't compare the list of killers jds went through to cains wins.
