Is Alexander Pantoja the Most Underrated Champion in the UFC?

Yep, unsure fights are the best to watch. On Sherdog we have an obsession with predicting fights lol, it takes some of the magic out of it I think.

Haha, if I'm ever in your neck of the woods I'll take you up on that drink sir!

Yeah I never cared for really predicting fights, I just enjoy watching them honestly.
I think a lot of people here have forgotten about the magic big guy, as unfortunate as that is.

My neck of the woods is open to you sir, and if you're ever even near here don't hesitate to drop me a line.

Magic big guy? My brain's not working at 100% today haha, what do you mean?

If I'm ever in the US (I've forgotten but I think your US based right?) I'll send you a PM, we've been chatting too long on the dog to pass up an opportunity to say hi in person.

"People here have forgotten about the magic, big guy"...big guy being you, as in "whats up big guy, or big man etc.
I put the apostrophe in the wrong place and didn't put a period to cap off the sentence lmao.

And yes im on the east coast sir ;)

He fights to his opponents level but finds ways to always come out on top

Hahaha I get why I was confused, now I understand :).

Good to know mate, same goes for you btw, if your ever in AUS let me know.

Very much agree he's underrated. Between his size, and attrition style he dosent get the respect his resume deserves. Guys fought and beaten everybody basically.

Yeah I wrote that entirely too fast sir lol.

Australia sounds quiet...I can handle that man.
One day hopefully my friend.

Why does everyone have to be the most something here?

Is this the most short HW ever?
Is this the most overrated fighter ever?
Is this the most underrated fighter ever?
Is this the most beloved fighter?
Is this the most hated fighter?
Is this the most silly nonsense of all time?
The constant GOAT list alterations and attempts to overwrite history because recency is more important...

It legit never stops here lol, reminds me of the high school yearbook superlative contests.

Yes it's criminal he isn't top 10 P4P. His control backtakes are annoying but can't deny effectiveness. He is probably top 5 flyweight all time

Before Schnell retired, Pantoja was 9-0 against the top 10. We haven't seen a champ with that kind of record against the top 10 in a long time.

He is objectively not even in his prime anymore and still getting title defenses in.

Fighting for 17 years with over 30 fights for a flyweight is ancient.
That's a gangster record. Pantoja is a REAL gangsta

I agree with you, he doesn't get his due
He's thrilling for about a round and a half before he starts laying on people while doing zero damage.
I agree with these two he's a great fighter amazing nail, ok hammer. Toughness and heart like no other, but yeah he'll lay right on top of you and make it boring if he wants to. Seems to just will himself into those positions.

I don't watch kid sized fights. The top 8 at 135 is fine, espc Yan.

That man has a real chip on his shoulder. Based on his post-fight speech, after winning the belt, his goals were much bigger and more personal that just winning a title. I've rarely been touched as much as that moment, in almost 30 years of watching this sport. He worked hard, for many years, to have a moment where he could throw his success in his father's face, and he met that goal. That's the kind of determination where you can never count that man out. He probably overachieves, but the results are there, though it isn't always pretty.

He's got a real motherfucker that will be standing across from him in his next fight. Asakura has lost four times, but he also has wins against all four of those opponents. Conventionally, I'd choose him to beat Pantoja, but Pantoja has that kind of will that makes him a real motherfucker, too. Will be an interesting fight.
