Many thought Romero beat Whit and Costa.
Nevertheless he was 0-2 and missed weight for the interim.
Very entertaining fighter (unlike the Izzy fight), he had many P/FOTN, and he was high ranked, unlike Rountree.

Chael had a big mouth and he sold well. Also, a joke. He was 2-2 at MW, losing 2 title fights.

If Dan Hooker (Rountree) gets a title shot vs Islam (Pereira) before Arman (Ankalaev), will you complain?

Vera got a TS coming off a 1 fight win streak. In comparison, Rountree's on a 5 fight win streak, so no.

Chito didn't deserve a TS also, because he lost badly to Sandhagen.
But at least O'Malley wanted to revenge that loss.

Well this is also the same year Chito got one coming off an iffy one fight win streak over Pedro who's not even ranked anymore in the division....
Plus he got it over Merab, who was at the time(still is) the most deserving guy in the promotion for a title fight and was available(his bout with Henry was only booked after Sean/Chito 2 got made)

I will say Pereira/Khalil is quite bad, I'm really wondering what happened there with Ankalaev. Altho if Jones/Stipe is made this year, that for sure takes the top slot

Even ignoring Ankalaev for a second (that situation has been discussed to death) shouldn't it be Nikita Krylov in this case? He's the next highest contender at LHW outside Ankalaev who is at least on a win streak.

Krylov is just MIA. Not sure where he went, but you and I both know that Hill vs Rountree was a title eliminator. It wasn't the Co-main on a conor card for nothing

Rountree JR is the highest ranked fighter other than Ankalaev coming off of consecutive wins that is available.

This isn't even in the top 3 worst this year.

The last LW title challenger (poirier) Had 3 people ahead of him in Armen, Gaethje and Oliveria. Roundtree is atleast 2nd in line, only behind Ankalaev and MAYBE Krylov (not sure what krylov is up to)

I think Pereira is insistent on fighting as much as possible as soon as possible because he knows he is in his prime money-making years, not to mention that hes coming out of these fights pretty much unscathed. And I think that in the meanwhile the UFC has some kind of plan for him that probably involves the HW belt and/or Jon Jones, and they need the Jones vs Stipe fight to wrap-up before they can act on these plans. So they give Pereira a striker who he should be able to dispatch fairly easily to keep him happy while also reducing the chance of him losing his belt.

Or they simply hate Ankalaev and dont want him anywhere near a belt, especially not when Pereira is one of their current biggest stars.

"lol" at not thinking Stipe vs Jones is so much worse. Alex Pereira fights 3-4 times per year. Jones and Stipe fight once every 3-4 years, not to mention it's a literal shit, irrelevant matchup. One of the biggest gimmie fights in the history of the sport.

Rountree was probably not the first or even second choice, but you (and we) have no idea of what happened on the fight negotiations. Since Ankalaev said he was negotiating for an "easy fight" against Pereira, there's a good reason to believe that he refused to fight earlier and demanded to fight in Abu Dhabi. He seems very entitled even though he already declined to fight Pereira on two occasions, something that the usual haters forget pretty often.

Between one undeserving contender and the next, why the outrage? Would you rather have Jan fight for the title, who by the way sat out since he lost to the guy he wants to rematch? I'm still disappointed about this particular matchup but the outrage is funny. Where was this energy when "UFC GOAT" Usman defended against .500 fighter Masvidal twice to pad his record?

Alex just beat Jan, Jiri twice and Hill inside 11 months and is booked to save this card following a shuffle in what will be his 5th fight at 205 in 15 months.

Both Jan (who has one win via injury in his last 4 fights) and Ank (1 win in 3 fights due to stupid game plan and fouls) can deal with it. Poatan is an active as F fighter and he's just fighting who is put in front of him.

Rountree is at least on a 5 fight win streak, it feels gross hearing Jan complain when the dude has one win in 4 fights, is coming off shoulder surgery, and thinks for some reason he should be getting a call. And I think Jan is awesome, just that he's clearly removed from the title picture and the only thing imo keeping him in the top 5 is him not fighting.

I've got no concern over Ank waiting either, he's obviously next but the dude sabotaged his own career with stupid game plans and fouls, he already had a shot to be champ and blew it, now the UFC is asking him to win a whopping 2 fights before he tries again.

Based on Alex's frequency of fighting, no one is going to have to wait all that long if he manages to win. Next is going to be one of Ank/Dricus/Apsinall, not like dude has an easy future ahead of him.

The biggest joke, imo. Was Dricus vs Izzy. Rountree is on a five fight win streak. Izzy had lost two of his last three. And ALL three were title fights. Now he’s lost three of his last four. ALL four were title fights.
