how so? he easily beats any short notice contender at this point, adding to his L3GacY. this is all a win-win for Islam. It would be a loss, if he wasn't fighting. but he gets to keep the belt, gets to retain, in his territory, watched by his supporters, as he inevitably fades short notice volk. this makes no sense.
 
Volk would certainly be on the right path.

If he turned down the fight he would have been accused of running scared.

If he wins "he only won because Volk fought on short notice".

If he loses well he was never any good in the first place.

why would islam turn it down? he's had a full fight camp. and it's not a question of if, he will win without a doubt. he wont lose, not a fighter of his caliber, to someone without a fight camp. makes no sense.

Because he's been training for Charles, not Volk who stylistically couldn't be more different.

People with short camps often fight like demons and cause upsets. A fighter with a built-in excuse (short notice) has less pressure and nothing to lose than the guy who has the belt and been through a camp.

Shouldn't matter imo. Everybody knows Islam is top 3 LW all time skill-wise (with Khabib and Penn), especially after what he did to Oliviera.

Moving up a division and beating somebody like Islam in their prime is unheard of. And Volk has already beat one of the all time great FWs in their prime as well in Holloway (Aldo and Mendes were obv past their prime when Volk beat them tho).

no they often do not. they often get beat though. very rarely does a fighter show up short notice and smoke fighters. its a rare phenomenon, not the usual, it's an exception. islams already beaten volk too. he can just do something similar with the advantage of actually having a fight camp, cardio, timing. there is no pressure on volk, besides all of the pressure that an in shape islam will deliver. i wish i was wrong. this isnt the rematch you think its going to be.

He should be P4P number 1 at the moment, that's a joke. But anyway he's a great fighter, and he's comfortably Australia's best ever MMA fighter too, as great as Bobby Knuckles has been.
 
People who use an event to grant GOAT status to a fighter are the biggest losers in life. It’s such disrespect to the sport because you put all the eggs in this one basket and essentially ignore everything that occurred before the event and future events.
 
It would be an impressive win no doubt but I would still have him just outside the Tier 1 of GOATS (Silva, GSP, Jones, Fedor)
But he would move up in the tier 2 group (MM, Aldo, Khabib, Izzy etc)
 
jones is just untouchable at this point plus im 99 percent sure he breezes through the ufc "heavyweight goat". So question is would he be the 2nd best of all time. A 11 day notice win over islam would be probably the greatest ufc win of all time with all the context added. If volk wins i'll have a hard time to not put him in my top 3 at least would be jones gsp (just) then volk .
 
He would not be a goat if he wins but if he loses again then he will have a 66 percent losing record for last 3 and will be a can instead of a goat.
