Media "If not for Jon Jones I would have got a title shot long ago" - Volkov

Right I'm just saying a robbery is a robbery. 1 out of 20 is as close to meaningless as possible. Especially when one had Volkov 30-27. Robberies happen and yeah Volkov has been on both ends.
Volkov fought another Johnson in Bellator too, that Volkov probably should have won but lost. I had to do a double take when checking MMA decisions, but it's Tim & Tony

New haircut Volkov speaking the truth. But I don’t think he would do the same if he were in Jones’ place, just doesn’t strike me as that type of person.
Why aren’t you able to take Volkov at his word? Almost every fighter echoes a similar sentiment. Even Tom said he doesn’t blame Jon for doing what he’s doing.

jon is screwing volkov in more ways than 1. Anybody with eyes knows volkov beat gane but UFC bribed the judges for Gane with dick suction to make Jon's win age better
Volkov is the fight Jon wants the least. Jon is ducking aspinal hardcore, but he would duck Volkov to new heights with which we've never seent before.

The question your comment raises is whether Volkov would say the same with his old haircut.

He's right. Imagine Volkov 2.0 planned extensively for the Tom rematch, makes Tom stop and think with kicks in the knee area, stings him with a long jab. Maybe he gets taken down again, but he's ready to throw up a triangle. We'll never know.

Because they don’t want to antagonize Jones and the UFC that is allowing it. But people don’t just change their personality because they win a belt. To be a proper asshole, you must be born as such.

I don’t think Volkov is anything like that. He seems like a straight shooter. I don’t think he’s the type to lie like that.

That's a fair assessment, it's just been brought up so many times like it was a blowout or something. Personally I thought it was pretty close watching it live. But in fact if you go by the stats, you'll see Gane had more control time and strikes and significant strikes in both rounds 1 and 2.

I just feel like there is an active force because of Jones to discredit Gane to the fullest extent because his HW legacy essentially rests on him. It's definitely the fight that had significance who's going to get a title shot next, so I get that too. But considering how much people talk about Gane being a white belt with no wrestling, he had more sub attempts and control in this fight.

Round 2 was the round that decides the fight, Volkov landed a glancing spinning back fist and then the striking numbers were pretty even after that. Then factor in Gane's takedown and control time, it's really not the worst.

Even? Not all strikes are the same and it shows in the stats. Gane had 2 more significant strikes, yes, but that's because 13 of those 27 strikes were all leg kicks. The head and body was Gane 14 - Volkov 24. That's a pretty significant difference that's would be visible to judges watching the fight. And none those strikes came from the 39 seconds of groundwork

Can't bother Jones right now. He's too busy.

The pool is just one giant bathtub. Jones is just finding out how crazy they get in those and he's loving every minute of it

Yeah with damage being the #1 factor there's just no way to give the fight to Gane. We can say "well it wasn't a blowout" but again, it's not some wild coincidence that 19 of 20 scored it for Volkov. Like, if it was 13 of 20 for Volkov you could say "Well...it was probably the wrong decision but 7 of 20 still scored it for Gane so robbery is extreme." But 19 of 20? And adding in when I watched it I was absolutely stunned when the results were announced? Yeah, blatant robbery.

Big picture as it applies to Jones...I mean Gane had already shown a deficiency with his grappling BEFORE they fought. Ngannou was never known as some sort of elite wrestler at all and he beat Gane with wrestling despite fighting injured. "White belt" is hyperbole regarding Gane's grappling but...it definitely looks to be below average for a highly ranked HW.

Gane is one of the lightest hitters at HW, frustrates me because he can do damage but chooses to just use his speed and score points. I get it though damage is #1 factor, but just trying to play devil's advocate here. Like I said I thought the fight was close and expected Volkov to win, but honestly thought it was a toss up.

Gane feels like a big, really good athlete that happens to fight vs a true fighter that happens to be big and athletic. He doesn't have serious killer instinct. He's gotten finishes based on being more talented but imo he will just never be special because he doesn't have that "it" factor.

I mean his speed and volume are unique at HW for sure. If his TDD becomes better and everyone's forced to stand, even Ngannou couldn't do much standing with him.

He's good. Problem is there's a faster and more athletic guy at HW that also has power.
