The steroid busts prevent him from even being put in the conversation for GOAT.

He's already GOAT imo.

That's the thing about shit like this, there is always a new next big thing.

Does Fedor have to come back and beat Tom to hold his spot? Funny how that works.

Nothing changes for me.

Still the UFC GOAT, still behind Fedor.

Nothing changes.

His accomplishments are way past even his closest competitors but it all really deserves asterisks for the steroids and the fouls and the questionable/favorable judging.

He is the Barry Bonds of MMA. He had a hall of fame worthy career without the steroids, but he did steroids, and eyepoked everyone.

Hes not and there are zero asterixes for a reason.

MLB and MMA are entirely different

MMA was/is rife and open about steroids. There were organization like Pride where steroids were encouraged and given to fighters. Hell many of those Pride guys Jones faced.

Seven of opponents popped and former fighters like Rampage and Sonnen are very candid of their usage. The first fighters in the UFC (Shamrock /Gracie) not only popped but explain how naive you have to be not know whats going on

Further, hes the biggest if not only star in the organization and has been for well over a decade.

Doesn't matter. A win over Tom really doesn't solidify anything for Jon.

I believe so, he could be #1 if he beats a prime/hungry Aspinall.

Basically it would be 1a, 1b Fedor and Jones for me.

Now we just have to hope they actually fight both Jon and Aspinall.

How do you even compare the greatest to ever do it .. he's already number 1...

Guy has had the belt and Ben the undisputed since he was 23 years old ... He's 38 now.. and champion in the highest division

As a HW yes. His LHW resume already is the best. Overall it sure won't hurt.

It would be a big win for his HW resume, his LHW resume is already set in stone, no one is gonna come close to 16 LHW title fights in a very long time, not the way UFC is these days, belts are passed around like confetti and so many flash in the pans.

If Jones did win the Aspinall fight I still think we will get tons and tons of threads that Jones HW resume is weak and he needs to clean out the division. I just know thats what people will say because a lot of people just can't accept Jones, no matter what happens. (a big factor will be how he wins the fight as well, if its a split decision then thats one thing, but if he finishes Aspinall easily and destroys him then that would mean more)
What crazy is he already cleaned the division out .. by beating Gane and Stipe... Aspinwall would be a clear clean out .. as no other prospects at hw are even considered a threat... And Tom never faught Gane or Stipe and imo his hardest fight was a gate keeper Curtis blades...

Toms had an easy run on paper ... And his blades fight wasn't impressive as it was a back and forth he was the one who caught him.. .. ohh big deal .. everyone else out blades down like a toilet seat.

You're claiming 42 year old Stipe off almost a 4 year layoff helped Jones "clean out" HW...but then shit on a clean KO win over a not washed up Blaydes?

Aspinall's last 5 wins are top 10 ranked, all first round KO's. Gane refused to fight Tom--twice. And you're holding up the ghost of Stipe as a meaningful win for Jones.

Holy. Shit.

Pure delusion.

Of course a win over Aspinall does great things for his legacy. Imagine Jones at his age, up a weight class, beating the defacto best of the 'new breed' of heavyweight.

And I know this is a hard one for some people to swallow, but there is a whole new generation of fans who've been watching the sport for years and haven't seen Jones do anything particularly noteworthy.

Lol. Tom would starch the reanimated corpse of Stipe in 30-45 seconds max.

It doesn't really move the needle that much. Aspinall is a nobody. It's a good win at HW. That's all.

Jones is already the greatest, but a win over Tom would look fantastic on his resume.

Jones can beat a resurrected Jesus Christ and will still be a PED cheat, how anyone has him in any goat list is beyond me.

Im not sure.... Ive done a ton of PEDs myself and its just a ridiculous advantage
