There are so so so many fighters… many over the years I’ve really enjoyed watching, a good number I really looked forward to watching, a select few I find truly amazing… and then there are the very very few I can say made me a fan.. When I say I’m a fan, I mean watching a fighter I’m a fan of goes beyond just my general enjoyment of watching fighting. It also means I don’t grow indifferent (or worse like stop being a fan) based on a loss or a bad performance. I look forward for weeks (sometimes months back in the day when events were once a month or less), the fights evoke some type of irrational emotion… the two fighters who did that for me were Anderson and Machida. If I had to articulate why, Id say it was a mixture of style, creativity, unpredictability, use of many facets of martial arts both traditional and modern…The finishes they had during their careers are just amazing to watch for me. They had a style uniquely their own. So many fighters are great, exciting and effective…but lack that style and creativity that makes me cross over as a fan. I enjoyed watching Fedor, BJ, Shogun, Rampage, Crocop, Nog, Lawler, and so on…and to some degree I was a fan of said fighters and many more.. but Machida and Anderson truly made me fan through their fighting style. Out of cage personality has little to do with if I become a fan or not, but I did appreciate both Anderson and Machida weren’t sh#t talkers and kept their statements in the cage. Totally subjective obviously, but basically something along those lines. Hopefully it was specific enough to get the gist of what makes me fan. Thanks for asking.Curious...What captivates you to be a fan? Be specific.
