Social ICE/deportation protests and riots megathread

Peaceful protests are fine - but you're not being honest when you don't admit the protesters were getting violent. That is where the escalation started. They started throwing shit at cops and impeding their movement and trying to physically stop them from doing their jobs.

I actually feel the cops were showing remarkable restraint. Saw multiple videos where cops just stood there as things were being thrown or their cars trashed.

It's only a matter of time before a cop feels significantly threatened by a thrown rock where they lethally shoot someone.

What do you mean "its only a matter of time" ? There weren't any rocks thrown last night, and there was almost zero protest period. I wouldn't be surprised if no protest happen at all tonight. You guys have a weird fascination about acting as if the protest have been at the same level of burning cars for 4 days straight, when that simply isn't the case.

Did you even watch any of the protest yesterday?

That happened the first night of the protest, and the people who did it were arrested. Around 50 people total have been arrested. Do you have any clips last night of people burning cars? How about the previous night? Were any cops physically assaulted last night? The first night a had a decent amount of violent actors, the past two nights did not. So why was the National Guard called? Why were the Marines called? They both have done absolutely nothing in regards to these protest.

The Wiki page lists a lot of the incidents. The rioters were getting violent starting from June 6th and continued on in the next few days. People were still throwing bricks, bottles with gasoline, etc on June 7th and then the National Guard was called that night for the next day.

June 8th, there was still violence and they torched those cars. There were still conflicts on June 9th including throwing shit at police. Breakdown of events here.

Would you call throw giant rocks at police cars speeding down the high way and setting them on fire acts of terrorism ?
for the sake of argument, sure.

But That wasn’t the discussion we were having. If someone gets arrested for terrorism there first must be reasonable evidence to suspect them of that crime. (IE: throwing bricks at cop cars). You’re advocating for “checking the legal status of everyone of these commie terrorists in the streets of LA”
And I’m trying to understand how exercising my first amendment right would give the government the right to violate my 4th? There are hundreds of thousands of people protesting.

To be clear- if someone is protesting but not breaking any laws should they have their 4th amendment rights violated?

is the Patriot act still valid?

Yes, 50 people total were arrested. There was a couple incidents per day up until yesterday, where basically nothing happened, like I said.

Do you have any videos of the National Guard actively stopping violent riots like the LAPD did the first two days? Can you give a legitimate reason why they National Guard was called?

It “expired” in 2020, but to no one’s surprise the infrastructure for mass surveillance, the tech and jobs established by the PA are still in place
can't let a good ....infrastructure go to waste.

In light of that can you see why I wouldn't just trust the cops here by default? Given that example of the reporter being shot do you think there's a chance the man in the video Ngo posted might also not having been doing anything wrong before being shot?

I’ll grant it is always possible but unlike you, I tend to believe that most cops do their job honorably and ngo is not above making up a story

You're not there, I'm not there... we don't know who escalated it into violence, the cops or the protestors... let's not pretend we live in a country where a significant portion of the police force aren't assholes looking to hurt people.

Did you also see the videos of cops firing rubber bullets at people who posed no threat?, why the selective reporting? there are definitely assholes on both sides.

I just told you. June 7th, the cops were still being attacked and outnumbered. The National Guard were called that night and they came on the 8th.

I'm not looking up individual riot clips for you.

You can read the timeline of events on the WIkipage.

I saw many more clips of protesters being much more aggressive and violent than the cops.

Maybe there may have been some stray rubber bullet hits but the majority of the ones I saw, it was justified.

And the protesters were throwing things that were much more dangerous than rubber bullets - cinder blocks, rocks and bottles with gasoline. Those things can be lethal.

Maxine Waters: stupid or dishonest?

I hate the bitch as much as MTG now. She's a horrible human being.

I'm not denying protesters escalated but state and local officials did not ask for the guard, Trump is imposing or on them.

Okay but why not give state and local officials time to handle it on their own?
come on man, ICE is literally created for taking illegals away. they're the lawful side here.
"illegals were provoked" is a crazy argument. it's the "what was she wearing" argument.
Trump has already violated court orders in his mass deportation efforts and cynically involved the Alien Enemies Act before the courts blocked that, I wouldn't assume they're acting lawfully
"officer, i was provoked by the sight of her ass through that tight skirt, i'm innocent!"
You don't see how Feds in pain clothes throwing people into unmarked vans might be heavy handed in a way that provokes a reaction?
