I feel bad for former WEC Champs

Guys like Wineland, Faber, Bowles, Torres, etc...who will never be seen as One of the all time greats because they never won a UFC Title

Yet they were all World Champs at a time where the WEC was the top promotion for the lighter guys. It was the UFC for the Bantamweights, Featherweights...etc.

I don't hold the same belief for the WEC LW Belt, because the UFC LW division already existed and was the premiere organzation.

I feel bad for some of those guys who did become the best 145'ers/135'ers in the world at one point but will never be given the distinction of being an all time great due to not having a "UFC" title in their resume

Hard to say someone was a "world champ" when they get smoked by Dominick Cruz. You feel bad? None of the guys you mentioned were the best 145/135 at any point during the history of combat sports. Faber had multiple shots at a title, couldn't do it, but you think he was a world champ? Torres went on a ridiculous string of losses after lots of people thinking he was the next big thing. Wineland? Can't put a string of wins together. Bowles? Brah...

He got robbed in one of the worst decisions in 2011 to Demetrious Johnson. He shouldve been fighting Dom for the BW title, the two BW GOATs at the time.

This was the fight that first turned me against Mighty Mouse. The debacle with Ian McCall just sealed it.

I can't deny DJ's current run though, at 125 or overall.

Are you by any chance a retard? Serious question.

Faber was the WEC Featherweight champ, the premiere organization for under 155 fighters, which made him the best FW in the world at the time.

Wineland was the first WEC BW Champ, making him the World Champ

Torres was the WEC BW Champ and was seen as one of the best in the world

Bowles beat Torres to become the champ

Please shut the fuck up

As much as people here love to hate on him Faber is an all time great

But yeah he held the Wec belt when it was the belt to hold in that class and he doesn't get the respect

Saying premiere organization for fighters under 155 is meaningless to me. No, it didn't make him the best FW in the world at the time. Faber was never the best FW in the world. Wineland was never the "world" champion. Torres was also never the best in the world. So Serra beating GSP means he is the best in the world? Uh, no, it doesn't...you have no idea what you're talking about, at all.

He doesn't get all the respect as a "world" champion because he struggles in the UFC against top tier competition, has never evolved his game, and keeps acting under the impression that he is the best in the world, when he isn't even close. I like Faber as a person and as a fighter but he never evolved, he never got better, he stayed as good as he was ever going to get and that happened to be good enough to win the WEC belt.

It's all making sense now, you're excused.

How typical, all your arguments get shut down and your immediate response is to use an excuse that will protect your ego. Hell, why not just call me a troll so you can really solidify in your mind that this is all a bad dream? If you truly believe that how long someone has been apart of a forum directly correlates to their knowledge then I feel deeply sorry for you.

In actuality YOU failed to prove a point ,you just stated your opinion with no validity to it.

The fact is WEC was the BEST organization in the world for guys under 155lbs because the UFC did not have those weight classes at the time. THIS IS A FACT.

Therefore, anyone who won a WEC Championship during this period was the BEST in the world at their weight class due to the WEC being the premiere promotion for people under 155lbs. FACT!

PLEASE TRY AND REFUTE THIS PLEASE

SO.... you DON'T feel sorry for them begin born midgets, but you DO feel sorry for them not getting the recognition they "deserve".

Not judging, just checking.

Torres is 5'11 I think, he was pretty long and skinny
Bowles i think was like 5'8
Wineland was 5'7-5'8

I wouldn't call them midgets

You're Kinda missing the point and kinda demonstrating the point at the same time. When the top competition In that weight WAS the wec he was the champion for a long time. You can't (or shouldn't) dismiss that. He also put fighters in that class on the map. Everyone under 155 owes him money because of him carrying the WEC. A lot of fighters haven't evolved at his age and lots fighters who aren't the champ think they are the best in the world...so unless you hate Luke Rockhold, Nate Diaz and jacare for that same reason (thinking they're the best..not the champion) That's not entirely a fair criticism

No, actually I refuted your statement about these people being called "world" champions. You can repeat as many times as you like that the weight classes were new and WEC was the only game in town. Still doesn't mean these individuals were the best in the world. No, anyone who won a WEC was not considered the best in the world just because the WEC was the only organization that existed for lighter weight classes. I already did refute what you said, you just keep harping on and on about the WEC being the only organization around when I never said otherwise. Remember this guy named Frankie Edgar, where was he at when Faber was in the WEC? You can go away now.

where you at now

Dear Lord, are you seriously whining because I'm not immediately responding to a nobody on the internet? How insecure are you?

I'm not missing the point. Champion for a long time? He was champion for two years until he got beat by Mike Brown. When did I dismiss that he won the championship belt? The only thing I'm refuting is that Faber was the best in the world and that being a WEC champion means you were the best in the world. I don't agree. No one under 155 owes Faber any money, or owes him anything. Lots of fighters have evolved at his age, Cruz, Overeem, Frankie, Bisping are the ones off the top of my head. Fighters thinking they are the best in the world is different than giving an argument as to why they're the best in the world. Unless you're the champion you don't even have the right to say you're the best in the world. Winning a championship belt in a lower organization only gives you the opportunity to compete with better fighters.

Frankie Edgar fought at 155 before dropping down. If they weren't best in the world, can you tell me who were?

when Faber retires, he'll be looked at far differently by anybody who's opinion is worth anything. As long as he's active, he's the guy who can't win a title in the ufc, after he retires, people will look back and realize that he is a top 3 guy in two divisions, something that has never been done before.

Can't say much about the other guys. Wineland is i believe considered top 10 all time at BW, idk about Torres. Personally, I rate Bowles in the top 5 at BW due to his consistency. No, he won't get the recognition he deserves, but you can say that about any person in a division with a very notable top 3 like BW. BW is a division run by Dominick Cruz with a second in Renan Barao. It's hard to even recognize Faber in their light.

I don't recall the length but if 2 years is right, and that's "not long" in your opinion to hold an Mma title then we are on different pages. Have a good day man and good convo.

Lets not forget this beast.
