I’m worried for Max Holloway

I mean seriously, he has had such an illustrious career but he’s fighting on borrowed time. He’s 32 and we all know what happens to the smaller fighters after age 32.

He’s a nice guy so I don’t want to see him hurt. He really looks outmatched against Topuria. I mean Topuria just KO’d the guy he lost 3 times against. 3 times he fought Volk and didn’t have an answer and Topuria just KO’d him in 2 rounds. It was like he was playing with his food and then finally he decided to stop giving Volk hope and bam… knocks him out. Brutally. Viciously.

I really don’t see a path to victory for Max here. He’s outmatched in the stand up and ground. He’s pretty much done for.

I just hope Topuria takes it easy on him.. rocks him and then submits him on the ground. I don’t want to see yet another UFC legend flat knocked out on the UFC canvas with his ass up.
It sounds to me that you don't understand fighting. Styles make fights and this is a great matchup. Max is a big boy now, he'll be alright.

If you look at how he's been performing, you don't think he's some washed, bum, past it version of a 32 year old either. He's shown no sign of his age being a thing to worry about.
To be honest, I don't think Max has been performing that amazing since his loss to Volk.
  1. Decisioned Arnold Allen - 🥱
  2. KO'd Korean Zombie - nice but Korean Zombie was 36 and right near the exit.
  3. KO'd Justin - who is sloppy and exposed when he's punch happy and also (in his own words) near his end .

Not hating either, I think most people I meet and talk to love Max (including myself).

Ilia is 15-0, has incredibly sharp striking and just recently put on an impressive performance against Volk.

Did to Volk in 2 rounds what Max couldn't do in 15 rounds.

The biggest concern isn’t Ilia himself, but the weight cut, especially after just moving up to 155 lbs. Historically, that’s been a risky move, particularly when facing a heavy hitter like Ilia.

Ideally, Max would've developed his outside game more by now, but we all know he’ll need to close the distance to stand a chance.

This 100% and I'm surprised more people aren't talking about it. Holloway himself recognized that weight gaining is a long-term endeavor (see his physique v Poirier and Gaethje) and it will not be easy to take off without detriment. I hate when guys do this. Still mad RJJ came down to fight Tarver lol.

If there is anyone that can beat Ilia in that division, it is Max, nuff said

Cmon man this some revisionist history everyone thought this man was marching to his fucking execution before the Gathje fight and not only did he completely outclass him, he also out brawled him and slumped him lol

Possible career best performance at a higher weight class, give the man some props.

Ilia is on a tear but if we got all these nitpicks we need to consider the short notice turn around Volk had after getting splattered by Islam into our MMAmath lol

max can definitely get it done but it won't be easy. but he showed the fuck up against gaethje like no other too. it's always 50-50. either he's going to put on this epic performance and out point his way to a victory, or he's going to take alot of unnecessary damage that only time will tell the true extent of. it's a crazy situation. to think max would have such a resurgence, to the point where he's fighting again for the title. poor volk, went from new demi-god to bapa better slow down and take a break. the MMA game is always crazy, changing, and Max already did the unthinkable. I think it's too hard to do the unthinkable twice or thrice. i want max to win, sending him my mana and chi now.

Skill wise? I think Max is in his prime and being 32 won’t hinder him.

What’s worrisome is the weight cut back down to 145.

I didn't mean to take anything away from his win.

He beat Justin decisively. I'm just stating I think Ilia is the better striker and I think he's going to outclass Max in this fight.

That takes nothing away from Max, he's a legend.

Topuria is a killer who has 100% self confidence at this point, and rightfully so. I think this will come down to whether Max can drag this into the later rounds. Topuria went 5 rounds with Emmett, but he was dominating from start to finish. Against Max that isn't going to happen. Topuria will either finish the fight quickly, or we'll see what we've come to expect from a Max Holloway fight (even if he loses) where it's a blood and guts endurance match. Topuria may pass that test, but we haven't seen him face the adversity that Max can bring yet.

How do you explain Max dominating Gathje? Justin is certainly is as dangerous as Topuria. He is larger than Topuria 1.8 M vs 1.7 M and 155 lbs vs 145 lbs.

How are Gaethje and Topuria anything alike? They have almost nothing in common, so how can you phrase it like Gaethje is just a bigger Topuria?

The weight thing doesn't make sense, since they're fighting at 145. It would be irrelevant that Gaethje is bigger. It's not like Max Holloway got off the couch, he bulked up for a fight at 155.

TS is a known troll who immediately began shilling for Topuria after Max beat Gaethje, despite literally never mentioning the guys name before.

I did not say they were the same. Just that Gathje is dangerous and Max's size isn't the issue of comparison. Gathje is larger than Topuria and fights at 155 lbs while Top fights at 145. That isn't a random choice. Most buys fight at the lowest weight they can make and still perform. Justin is larger. Add to that the fact that Gathje is a KO artist.

So why is Topuria such a massive threat to possibly kill Max when Justin was not?
