How good was prime Keith Jardine?

He was the Michael Johnson of his day. Pretty bad record overall, but had some good wins that didn't really fit a guy with a losing record.

Well He use his Hype as a Fighter to play Tough Guys in Hollywood.

In the top 20's of all time..maybe 30's...He had some moments for sure but his chin and flat footed stance got him caught..especially against top strikers. He had a good IQ in it, a great trainer for sure.

He actually had a winning MMA record. He went 6-7 in the UFC, but fought a lot of good fighters (Forrest, Rampage, Chuck, Wand, Bader, etc.) and didn't have many easy or "bounce back" fights.

i was a fan, he epitomized the gutsy awkward style, had some good leg kicks, and was ready to throw down all the damn time. loved his style. good personality too. his biggest win over chuck liddell was fucking awesome, unexpected. always will be a fan of the dean of mean, keith jardine. WAR KEITH JARDINE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LETS FUCKING GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Someone mentioned DDP. Another fighter who's kind of like an optimized Jardine with a better chin and more KO power is Jiri. Both are unorthodox and Jardine had some of the same pscyho vibes without the tuft of hair.

A little above gatekeeper status I would say. It did piss him off when people wanted to fight him tough.

Solid, Top 10, borderline contender at his best. Well-rounded, good leg kicks and fought with bad intentions (thus the "Dean of Mean" name). Unfortunately, his chin was his Achilles Heel, and there were always a few LHWs who were better. After he beat Forrest (great win) and on his way to a likely title shot... he got demolished by a Houston Alexander upper cut...that kind of thing always seemed to happen when he got a good win (Forrest, Liddell, etc.) and got momentum.
Very weird kicks, but they were very effective,,

Extremely underrated. Had the ability to hang with top 5 guys on a good day.

A contender in his day that never managed to clinch the title shot. I don’t know what else you can say about it

If Jardine's last name were Johnson, the nickname Dean of Mean would make no sense. -Mike Goldberg

Pretty darn good. Beating Iceman by decision is quite impressive, especially considering he wasn’t a KO machine, he simply outworked one at the time greatest LHWs.

He had a decent career but he also had a lot of opportunities because of his gym and how the division was a bit thin. I thought he wasn't that good when I was watching him but he seem to make that weird style work for him. I will admit I ate crow for some of his fights.

People forget what a sharktank LHW was back then. It was the best division bar none. Jardine was in the mix, but there were so many champion level guys there. Jones just made it look easy to mop up. Jardine was just inconsistent, he'd win the big fights and lose the ones he was a favorite for.

He was a difficult guy to fight if you didn't catch him early. Very well-conditioned, physical guy who has this weird style of fighting that was seemingly all over the place but somehow worked for him. Threw strikes from all angles and moved around awkwardly.

If you let him hang in there past round 1 you had a tough fight in your hands. Starting slow and having a suspect chin was his downfall.
