How good was prime Keith Jardine?

He was a solid top 7 guy. His style was really awkward kind of like DDP but less well rounded.

Not great. His strengths were size, durability, tenaciousness & an unorthodox style.

Because of these he was the type of fighter that was more difficult to beat than one that was superior to most of his opponents.
On paper, Brandon Vera was a better fighter than Jardine. Vera even briefly did D1 wrestling, though you wouldn't know it from his UFC fights. But Jardine made in at ugly fight where Vera couldn't do his "finesse striking" very well and got the win. That was one of Keith's better wins IMO though Vera wasn't as big a name as Forrest or Chuck (future and past UFC champs when Jardine beat them).

I was a big Brandon Vera fan at the time and that fight bummed me out.

I think Jardine was as well-rounded (even Roger Gracie couldn't submit him on the ground), but DDP has a better chin and more finishing ability.

DDP is a good comparison though--that's what a peak Jardine would look like with a better chin.

He was awkward and a challenge, and even got to #2 IIRC. But his peak was very short lived.

So, he had a great run, peaked, and then quickly valleyed.

Getting into a phone booth firefight with Alexander was not great fight IQ.

Didn't he do something similar with Wandy?

One of those fights he must regret. Had Houston hurt early...should've gone to the ground where Alexander was clueless. Oh well, coulda, woulda, shoulda.

He had K1 level striking, and low kicks comparable with a prime Ernesto Hoost.

The last man on the moon ;)

Solid, Top 10, borderline contender at his best. Well-rounded, good leg kicks and fought with bad intentions (thus the "Dean of Mean" name). Unfortunately, his chin was his Achilles Heel, and there were always a few LHWs who were better. After he beat Forrest (great win) and on his way to a likely title shot... he got demolished by a Houston Alexander upper cut...that kind of thing always seemed to happen when he got a good win (Forrest, Liddell, etc.) and got momentum.

Jardine would have beaten Rampage if he didn't get knocked down in the last round. His awkward style was fun to watch and I loved the power in his low kicks.

He beat Liddell and finished Forrest Griffin in under a round. Also had a competitive fight with Rampage. He was top 5-7.

I still think Chuck won that ..yes he dropped but he got right back up and did damage to Keith...

Nope, he threw a low kick and Wanderlei landed a counter hook and put him down.

Post-prime Keith Jardine is doing OK as a villain in movies.
