Screw them and long live piracy.

I wonder if they will put ufc events on CBS. Does anyone still have cable?

Numbered events will be on CBS. CBS is free over the air broadcast in the US so cable isn't needed.

Networks like Fox, CBS, ABC, and NBC are what most people who don't have cable use to watch sports.

You mean what can they do to wrestle fans away from the longstanding streaming model that works perfectly fine? Well that's up to them really. I'm not necessarily in the market for a new provider so the deal needs to be pretty enticing.

I’m expecting Paramount to announce that an account can only be used in one household, causing people to stop freeloading off others and get their own subscriptions. I know it’s not the worst thing in the world, since the subscription isn’t ridiculously price, but still a punk move.

Do you see them raising the cost on their subscription price? What else can you see them doing to make the UFC fans fork over a little more cash to make up for this deal?

They probably wont raise prices right away. Maybe the second year into the deal you see the price raise but it will happen. Everyones streaming strategy is to sneak up price increases every few years. The goal will be to get streaming as expensive as cable used to be with different bundle packs
I predict:

-watered down cards to the point of absurdity, like I might be fighting on them (for some old Reebok coupons, but only if I win)

-the basic subscription will be stuffed full of ads and will steal all your info if you're using an app; the basic subscription may not include all of their back catalogue

-no subscription will include a PPV-level event until a month after it happens and you'll have to purchase it separately in that time

We already get a bunch of bad cards so that will probably continue. UFC doesnt have enough talent to spread it out evenly. Since theirs no ppvs now maybe they can sprinkle in a few more big names on fight nights now.

Theirs definitely going to go heavy on commercials. Thats how paramount is paying for this. They get money on subscription side and commercial side to pay off the billions spent for UFC rights.

Its still a homerun for fans. Lower price for subscribers, No ppv to buy, and UFC gets way better distribution. This is going to grow the sport to another level.

Idk if I’ll sign-up for the Paramount thing

Gonna let it start-off and see how 1st qtr goes

I bet the streams just come in even better,
so may not even need a new sub for no reason at all

I sure do bet things will change for Paramount in 2026 and prices will go up for sure

I seriously doubt the $7.99/month basic subscription will cover all UFC events. They'll probably require some premium higher tier subscription. ESPN+ is jacking up their prices again too.

UFC doesn't want extra paywalls. Its bad for the sport and confuses people. They want to give access to as many fans as possible and to deliver as many subs to Paramount.

For ESPN+ its a different situation. Disney who owns them needs money because they been taking big hits in their cable business for years. ESPN(cable channel) their most prized channel is being transitioned into ESPN DTC. So they are gradually raising prices on everything to have money to fuel the DTC app. 30 bucks on ESPN DTC/Disney+ combo but its temporary.

It's not everywhere. Still have to pay in Aus/NZ apparently.
They will just jack up Paramounts fees in some way.

I don't understand why the UFC doesn't;t just build up fight pass and offer a higher subscription for PPVs.

Ita literally the worst app on tbe market. Paramount plus has consistently ranked as one of if not most frustrating app by users.

That's what they replaced a glitchy ESPN+ with. Granted it will cost less now but the quality of viewing will be worse unless Parsmount makes tech upgrades.

But paying 14 bucks a month an getting all is better than paying 90 bucks a month for ESPN+ n PPV.

Never had any issues with P+.

ESPN+ otoh? Just used it this morning to rewatch some of the Paris fight night fights and it was absolute trash. 3 second delay between remote control button click and actual movement. Zero functionality of the fast forward or rewind functions. Does not save settings or offer a “recently watched” feature and forces user to painfully navigate to UFC fights each time you back out. It is unequivocally the worst streaming app I have ever used.

Paramount+ subscriptions are half off until the 18th so I locked in a year of premium for $60.

I’ve been binging Dexter on there and haven’t had any issues with the app so far. Also, when I signed up I noticed it stated 3 users could he signed in at once. Now my dad can finally watch all the cards again.

Buy paramount stock and enjoy the gains.

I think 'watered down' has already been happening, which sped the decline of the PPV model. The UFC figured out their core audience will not demand fighters get a reasonable revenue split, such that we would see an appropriate influx of suitably young, suitably athletic fighters enter MMA as a first option.

So we've seen guys who work a day job and moonlight fighting enter through Dana White's contender series on very cheap contracts. That model isn't going away, and it'll only become more painfully obvious the next few years.

re: basic subscription, this is true across streaming.

re: PPV-level event, big disagree. Larry Ellison didn't spend ~8billion dollars for bullshit. They will have what ESPN+ had. Leaving the door open for a big PPV event is just that, leaving the door open.

Same boat, never had any problems with Paramount streaming, although I haven't used it as much as other streamers.

ESPN+ has been years of problems and bullshit.

This is probably the best business model they can go with. Get rid of PPV, keep everything on fight pass. Didn’t WWE do something like this?

The UFC brand is pretty damn big nowadays. If they just did this and put more effort into promotion, they could literally keep almost all the money to themselves and not have to split anything with some broadcasting network or service.

The one standout issue with the paramount app is that it consistently has an issue with forbidding any pausing or rewinding/fast-forwarding, which is obnoxious in general but simply unacceptable for MMA. Some kind of glitch that doesnt always reproduce, but in my experience it seems to be... most of the time.

You have no way of knowing if some of these are true, you just want them to be true.

Does it seem too good to be true?
