I've given change, water, and food. No regrets. Some ppl have more humanity then others, and that's not a dis I don't look down on those who give nothing. Everyone has there own viewpoints.

Let me lay it down for some of you... apparently most of your financial decisions are motivated more by emotions and thinking with your brain is not something you do often (excluding those who agree with me).

When you give to charity, you are making a conscious decision with your money. Yes, you can do whatever the hell you want because it's your money, but if there's a way to enhance the effect of your charitable contribution or decrease the risk that your charitable contribution goes to waste, wouldn't you do it?

Assume you walk into a casino with a conscious decision to gamble with only $100 decision for the night. You see a craps table on the right, which gives you slightly over 49% to win. To the left, you see a Big Six Wheel that looks easy to play, but in fact the house edge can be up to 25%. Your goal is to maximize your $100, therefore skipping over the Big Six Wheel is the no-brainer, as should be skipping over the hobo to your left at the stoplight.

Unintelligent people will think I am a bad person because I actually think about where I give money to charity. I'm just helping you realize there are more efficient ways to give to charity with less risk.

I like the idea of giving food over money. Most of the common beggars around my area were drunks and you could even see them from time to time holding booze while asking for money.

There are good charities however that work to provide a halfway house for homeless people to get back on their feet

I have a couple of friends who used to be homeless. One who used to be an alcoholic and has since done a Masters degree and is a great dad, the other who's a girl who fell out with her family at a young age and is also back on the straight and narrow.

You shouldn't be so fast to judge, because it only takes a couple pieces of bad luck and it could easily be you one day.
