I think it’s callous and detrimental for the country’s civility to show pleasure at someone falling deathly ill. We saw this when John McCain was diagnosed, we saw it when John McCain died, we see it in stories about RBG, etc. All it does is make the country a bit nastier.

I understand that there are people who think Rush Limbaugh has damaged our society, maybe irreparably, by creating an industry out of political shock entertainment or whatever. I have literally never heard his show, so I don’t have much input on that. But I think that for the sake of civility, our society relies on certain norms in regards to death and sickness.

I don’t see it as a requirement to show respect to a person who has fallen ill. I see it as showing respect to our society and the civility that binds us to simply keep it to yourself if you have something nasty to say regarding that illness.

I think there should probably be a Rush Limbaugh thread created just to judge the absurd notion that he should have the medal of freedom or really any positive acknowledgment from our government. A thread that only speaks on that medal of freedom, not on the State of the Union address or his terminal cancer.

There is nothing wrong with condemning Rush Limbaugh and going through all the ways you believe he has been awful for our society and as a person, it’s just that his cancer thread is not the right place to do it.
