Opinion Has anyone ever switched from right to left?

Teenagers and dudes in their early 20’s are complete dummies. That’s the whole point of my thread that seemed to fly over your head, young people are too dumb to see reality and often see bad as good, gravitate towards chaos, glorify idiocy and just want to be contrarians.

Why would I lie by telling you I was a complete dummy?

I got the point of your thread, its painfully transparent. And your tall tale dove tails a little too neatly with the point.

Like I said, don't believe you.

Anyway my dad was a registered Republican, voted for Reagan and GWB the first time but after the invasion of Iraq and especially after the GFC he became a registered independent. But really he either votes Democrat or stays home.

What part is it that you don’t believe?

Economically/fiscally doubt you gonna find too many ppl that made that switch

On the other hand socially maybe some do

i once met a couple who were left wing skins. The guy told me his gf was right wing skin n he helped her see the light

What’s funny is she was just like Derek from American history x gf (looks n demeanor)

Thanks for the response. I'll hold my tongue about Kasich.
Ok, my thinking on Kasich was that he’s shown an ability to admit when he’s wrong and change his positions (as he’s done on environmental issues, private prisons, and drug laws) which I think is a hallmark of a reasonable person.

But I’ve done some further research and he’s been wrong about damn near everything so it’s less impressive in that case

Serious question, because personally I can’t think of a single person who used to be a conservative or even slightly right of center, but then thought better to become a leftie.

On the flip side I know a ton of people who used to be on the left but grew up and moved towards the right (myself included). Yes, back in my early 20’s I was one of those idiots who wore a Che Guevara t shirt and romanticized revolution against the evil capitalists. Then I grew up, travelled the world, bought a home, got married, became a father, and woke up to the realities of life.

I’m not sure who first said it but I once heard a saying that goes something like ”If You Are Not a Liberal When You Are Young, You Have No Heart, and If You Are Not a Conservative When Old, You Have No Brain”.

I’m 42 now and don’t know many people my age who are still leftists, and the ones who are tend to be people who I could only describe as individuals who could never really get it together. Mostly socially awkward types who don’t do well in relationships with others, or are not doing well financially mostly through faults of their own and are constantly blaming the system for their failures.

I have a cousin like that, dude was born in Canada, good looks, was popular in high school, fairly well off parents, grew up upper middle class, had every opportunity you can think of, and just never bothered to make an effort to have any discipline, and now he’s 45, always struggling to make ends meet and still blaming society for all his problems.

Meanwhile I was born and grew up in a communist nightmare, immigrated to Canada in my teens, didn’t know the language, didn’t even do well in school, but was still able to do very well for myself by my 30’s and realize just how good I have it to be in this land of opportunity.

Back to the topic, is there anyone on this forum who once considered themselves on the right, but now decided that left is the way to go, and be honest. (I imagine there are a bunch of you who went in the opposite direction)
I went from pretty conservative, to more socially liberal.

I change my mind about stuff on a day to day basis though, but I'm also retarded.

I have moved from right to middle. I don’t like either side, but still find more allegiance with the right than left. Plenty of douche canoes on both sides. Wish there were more rational politicians in the middle.

I see this a lot, and I think what actually happened was the "center" was moved to the right. You're just not a Trump cult person, maybe. Anyway, maybe that's not you specifically.... but I see this a lot.

Pretty much EVERY TIME the presidency changed from republican to democrat...

yes, I switch stance fap from time to time.

Also isn't the better question how many people have abandoned the left and the right to call themselves Independents.

Good question

Its hard to define political spectrum rectums this days!

Some rightwing movements have started to become more accepting of some normally leftist talking points specially on some social issues like acceptance of gay marriage and some form of abortions but they are still hard-line capitalist and against further implementation of more socialist ideas in economics.

Cenk yugar from TYT was a Republican. A hell of a lot of people who turned into right wingers complaing about SJW's during the whole 2015-2016 youtube scene have now grown out of it and moved left.

I Grew up with uhc. Went into a libertarian randian phase for about 15 minutes until i learnt more about the history of what it took and takes to keep UHC in place. The millions of people the health care industry screws every year is a massive driver of people left.
Iv always been a social conservative personally but i think LGBT rights are good. Abortion i dont like but id fight for women to have control over their bodies. I dont like the promotion of weed but people shouldn't be getting in trouble with the law for it.

I cant stand either to be honest. Live and let fucking live. The whole thing is solved simply by respecting the fragility of the anomaly we call life and being peaceful, simply calm and peaceful and championing the same.

That doesnt even mean we cant have pro fighting, dark violent fantasies and media and other nasty aspects of our genetics in some capacity, since it is part of our nature, but we should know the difference and not act it out in reality.

How difficult is it really to tell the difference between "good" and "bad"? Even in terms of pragmatism, one of my favourite philosophies, wed be so much better off if we just went about our business calmly and peacefully. The only monkey wrench in that is if some interstellars like us came to visit, and our precious economy.

The power of the media is immense and distorting, ironically its also the only place violence should exist except for squared circles and octagons. Shut it down.

TLDR: Our species is fucked up.

To be fair, anyone is going to look nuts compared to the stable genius currently leading the GOP.

No, anyone who supports 12 year olds wanting to have sex changes is going to look completely nuts without having anything to do with the Orange man.

Yes. I did. I voted conservative, posted avidly on a gun rights forum, and was a full retard libertarian (taxation is theft) for a year or two. Coincidentally, I was having a mental health crisis at that time. Ain't that somethin'?

I've switched from left to right as I've gotten older and have more stake in the game.

You wore Che shirts into your early 20s?
I did own one and wore it from time to time, though I was cool and revolutionary.

<Prem973>

Like I said, most dudes in their early 20’s are completely clueless about life (as much as they don’t think so at the time), and I was no exception unfortunately.

Ok, but I’m not asking who moved from the extreme right more towards center. I guess I should have been more specific since today people slightly right of center I consider pretty liberal (the far left is not liberal at all).

No, a sane person has never done this. One grows more conservative as they age.
Is normal.
