Halloween 'carnage' erupted on a Hartlepool housing estate as gangs of hundreds of youths ran amok.
Swarms of teenagers gathered at various locations in the town’s Bishop Cuthbert estate on Thursday night, where they reportedly launched fireworks at each other, and even at police. One eye witness saw a teen throw a firework, which landed beside a man walking his dogs, leaving the animals terrified.
A teen was allegedly attacked 'over money', while others walked around selling fireworks, one resident reports. In another shocking incident, a homeowner’s perimeter garden bush was set alight, with a video shared on social media showing the flames.
Numerous police vehicles were called to the usually family-friendly estate, from 7pm onwards until later in the evening, when Cleveland Police slapped a dispersal order on the estate. The order gives officers the powers to disperse those believed to be involved in antisocial behaviour from the designated area immediately.
One passerby, a woman in her 40s who did not wish to be named, said: “It was actually insane, total carnage. There were hundreds of youths in gangs just holding lit fireworks in their hands and pointing them at other teenagers. The fireworks were just firing into smaller groups. It was just mental and I really don’t know how someone wasn’t seriously injured.”
A farm owner has been left 'devastated' after an early morning fire ripped through his land, killing livestock and destroying property.
Cleveland Fire Brigade rushed to the scene after a blaze broke out on Margrove Park, Charltons, in Guisborough on Friday morning. The brigade confirmed they attended the incident at around 4.49am and sent crews from Coulby Newham, Guisborough, Redcar, Saltburn and Skelton to the scene.
A spokesperson told Teesside Live two sheds were among outbuildings destroyed in the flames. He said: "Cleveland Fire Brigade were called on the 1st of November, 2024 at 4.49am to an incident on Margrove Park, Charltons, Guisborough. Five fire engines were in attendance from Coulby Newham, Guisborough, Redcar, Saltburn and Skelton. One smallholding including two sheds which were well alight. Incident has been scaled back but crews remain on scene on protective standby.”
Pictures from the scene show several outbuildings destroyed by the flames as bales of hay burn. In a later update on Twitter, the brigade said the owner has been left 'devastated' and livestock were lost in the blaze.
They said: 'Cleveland Fire Brigade were called at 4:49 on Friday, November 1 to an incident at Margrove Park in Guisborough where a local farm was alight. The owner has been left devastated by the loss, and we extend our thoughts and sympathies to them during this difficult time.
Despite best efforts, the blaze resulted in the loss of a substantial number of livestock, around 600 bales of hay, two barn sheds and equipment including a tractor and digger.'

The farm fire is presumably arson. There have been several farm fires in the area in the last few years, and as far as I can remember they all started at night. There was actually a serial arsonist in the area in the mid/late 90s who burnt the library down, as well as starting some other major fires, and he wasn't caught. Not for arson, anyway. Setting fire to commercial buildings or something, while obviously still a serious crime, isn't so bad, but setting fire to buildings with animals in and destroying a library is barbaric.
